Fines for hitchhikers and drivers

The spring and holiday period is the time when hitchhikers appear on the roads like mushrooms after rain. If in winter this is an unusual sight, then as soon as it gets warmer, travelers go in search of adventure. It is important that drivers, as well as hitchhikers themselves, exercise extra caution during their activities. This will avoid unpleasant situations.

One of the mistakes most often made by inexperienced hitchhikers is stopping vehicles on a highway or expressway. This is an action that, according to Art. 45 sec. 1 point 4 SDA entails a fine of 50 PLN.

However, this is not only illegal, but above all very dangerous. A car at a speed of 130 km / h may simply not notice a pedestrian on the road and inadvertently cause an accident. As you might guess, the chance of stopping someone is negligible, because the driver, even if he really wanted to, would not have time to slow down with a fellow traveler. Of course, this would be unwise, given that the cars follow him at the same speed. Article 49 sec. 3 states that for “stopping or parking a vehicle on a motorway or expressway in places not intended for this purpose”, the driver can be fined PLN 300.

The hitchhiker not only exposes himself and other road users to loss of health or life, but also risks being fined by him and the driver who decided to help him.

It's easier for mobile people

The risk that one of the drivers will have to leave the hitchhiker on the track is high. So how do you get out of this place that seems doomed to failure? It is best to ask the driver to stop at a gas station or SS (Resting Area). Waiting at the train station, away from the road, I have much less chance of finding transport - you can say a hitchhiker. This is not necessarily true.
