Swedes will make batteries for BMW electric cars

The German automobile company BMW has signed a contract for 2 billion euros with the Swedish company Northvolt for the manufacture of batteries for its electric cars.

Despite the dominant position of the Asian manufacturer, this deal between Northvolt BMW will change the entire production and supply chain for European manufacturers. Moreover, as expected, the products will be characterized by durability and efficiency.

Northvolt is planning to manufacture the batteries at the new megastore (its construction has not yet been completed) in northern Sweden. The manufacturer plans to use wind and hydroelectric power plants as a source of energy. The start of the conveyor is planned for early 2024. The factory will also recycle old batteries. Over the year, the manufacturer plans to recycle 25 thousand tons of old batteries.

In addition to recycling and recycling batteries, Northvolt will mine material for the manufacture of new batteries (instead of rare metals, BMW plans to use lithium and cobalt starting next year).

The German automaker is currently receiving batteries from Samsung SDI and CATL. It is not planned to refuse to cooperate with these companies, as they allow the manufacture of batteries near their production facilities in Germany, China and the United States.
