Seat Cordoba 1.4 16V

It is impossible not to notice that it is made on the basis of the station wagon (Ibiza). The new generation expresses this even more clearly. The front end has remained virtually unchanged. The side silhouette begins to change only behind the B-pillar, and the rear view does not hide the close connection with Ibiza. At least when we look at the light, no.

But one thing is true: many people like the shape of the new Cordoba less than the shape of its predecessor. And why? The answer is pretty simple. Because she's too family friendly. You should not expect that a “special” WRC will ever be made on its basis. The car simply lacks sporting ambition. But, nevertheless, he is not completely without them.

Inside, you'll find a three-spoke steering wheel, round gauges and a two-tone dashboard. The engine is surprisingly responsive when starting up. And also with a rather interesting sound, if you know how to listen to it. The drivetrain is on average accurate, as are the steering wheel and the rest of the mechanics. But you will not be able to race with this Cordoba, even if it is a Seat product.

The volume of the engine convinces of this. This "makes" 1 liter. And while you can find four valves per cylinder, two camshafts, and a light cast iron head in the gut of the engine, this doesn't add up to an excessive increase in power. This one is pretty modest for today. The factory-declared 4 kW or 55 horsepower clearly indicates that you will not experience the Spanish temperament in this Cordoba.

Otherwise, as we noted in the introduction, the form does not imply this. Therefore, the Signo version of the Cordoba will delight you with its equipment. It is extremely rich for this class of cars, as it also includes automatic air conditioning, remote control central locking, power windows for all four windows, and an on-board computer. The driver and front passenger also have drawers in the doors and dashboard, mirrors in the sun visors and reading lamps.

When you move from the two front seats to the back bench, you experience the exact opposite of this. Just forget about the comfort you may have come across in the beginning. Even at the most basic, which means you won't find an armrest around you, let alone a drawer or reading lamp.

The same goes for legroom, which is in no way designed for length. Two conclusions can quickly be drawn from this, namely that the Cordoba is a distinctly family limousine and that kids will feel best on the back bench. The fact that this is true can also be judged by the simple two rear airbags and the seat belt in the middle, which we are used to on airplanes.

However, it must be admitted that the story of the backseat does not continue in the trunk. To open its lid, interestingly, there is a large "Seat" plate for unlocking the lock. And when the lid is lifted, there is room for the eyes that can swallow up to 485 liters of luggage.

The latter fails to score top marks in the “beauty” contest as it doesn’t have a regular (read rectangular) shape and is not crafted in the way we are used to larger and above all more expensive limousines. However, it is large, which undoubtedly means a lot to buyers of cars in this class.

This is the answer to the question why we should encroach on Cordoba and not on Ibiza. The latter is more eye-catching in appearance, but when we think of rear space, it becomes much less generous.
