Seat Exeo ST 2.0 TDI CR (105 kW) Style

With the release of the Exe ST, Seat entered a segment it had never touched before: the classic family station wagon. And instead of discovering hot water (and, of course, due to group politics), they simply pulled (as in the case of Exe) to the platform of the old Audi A4, adapting the appearance (and some details inside) to the design style Seat and evo, that's it.

The Exeo ST is five millimeters longer than the Exeo sedan (which we have already extensively tested at the Avto store) due to more rear wheel overhang than the sedan. But this does not mean that there is more space in the trunk. On the contrary (as is usually the case with most limousine-caravan pairs of the same model): there is less space.

Not much less, instead of 460 liters, 442 liters, but still: here the Exeo is quite far from the top of the class.

Otherwise: before we turn to the technique (which has been known for a long time), we prefer a few more words about prices: such an Exeo ST, as a test one (and which was not equipped with a pile of unnecessary junk), will cost you a good 35 thousand.

Many? Yeah, a lot. Not only because it is not a very spacious family mobile home with rather historical roots, but mainly because you can get the best deal from the same group.

Take a look at the price list for the Golf Variant (or use the online configurator for both cars) and you will quickly realize that a similarly motorized and nearly equally equipped Golf Variant is much cheaper. The difference is measured not in hundreds, but in thousands.

And this despite the fact that the front and rear of both cars have approximately the same space (although the Exeo ST has a wheelbase six centimeters longer, both can comfortably accommodate two adults and two children), the Golf has a lot more trunk. and the same technique is located under the engine cover. Yes, the Exeo ST has (too) fierce competition right inside the house. Volkswagen already knows why this is so.

Tech: The two-liter Common Rail turbodiesel is capable of three more horsepower than a comparable Golf (both of which annoyingly exceed the insurance class limit), and is alive enough for the Exeo to handle day-to-day tasks with ease. traffic.

We just wish we had a little more flexibility at the lowest revs, and even more, we'd like Seat's engineers to pay more attention to soundproofing. In the cabin, at low revs, there are ugly drums, and at high revs, there is just a rumble. Golf, let's say, is much better here.

There's nothing special (but nothing wrong with the six-speed manual), it interferes (again) with too much clutch pedaling, and consumption is ultimately favorable: a good eight liters per 100 kilometers. Low-profile tires and a reasonably strong chassis don't impress on bad roads, which is why the Exeo ST is one of the sportiest caravans out there. If you like this kind of stuff, you won't be disappointed.

And so it quickly turns out that the Exeo ST is exactly what you expect from it: a slightly older A4 Avant - with all the pluses and minuses.
