Poland is one of a dozen or so European countries where there is no obligation to drive with winter tires. However, that doesn't mean you can't get a tire-related fine.

Tires are the only element that connects the car to the road, and their quality and condition have a huge impact on safety - both for us and for other road users. Unfortunately, many drivers still do not realize this and go on a journey in a car with the wrong tires.

Worn tread is one of the most common tire defects. The law is clear - tread depth, in the absence of the so-called wear indicators on the tire must be at least 1,6 mm. Ignoring this recipe we risk leaving our registration certificate with the police and getting a fine of up to PLN 500, but more importantly, we put ourselves and others at risk. A scratched tread significantly impairs the grip of the car with the road, which makes it easier to skid, and when driving in the rain, hydroplaning may occur, i.e. loss of traction after entering the water.

Another offense for which you can lose your registration certificate and get a fine during an on-site inspection is the lack of identical tires on the same axle. According to the rules, the vehicle must be equipped with identical tires on wheels of the same axle. This means the same brand, model and size, as well as tread depth.

Another important element is taking care of the quality of the tires installed on our car. If we see cracks, cuts or irregularities on them, it is worth going to the vulcanizer for inspection, because. riding them can be dangerous.

– Tires that are properly matched to the vehicle, the driver's driving style and the ambient temperature are an investment in road safety and lower operating costs. At least once a month, you should check the tread, assess the general condition of the tires and check the tire pressure - a pressure change of even 0,5 bar from the optimal value increases the braking distance to 4 meters and significantly impairs driving performance.
