Symptoms of a Defective or Failing Fog Light/High Beam Headlamp

If your fog lights are dim, flickering, or won't turn on, it might be time to replace your fog light bulbs.

Fog lights are bulbs that are located under the headlights and provide illumination for the fog lights. These are usually high-intensity lamps, sometimes colored yellow, which are designed to improve visibility. The light provided by the fog/high beam headlights makes it easier for other drivers to see the vehicle and improves the visibility of the road edges in adverse conditions such as heavy rain or thick fog. Because the bulbs provide illumination for the fog lights, when they fail or have problems, they can leave the vehicle without working fog lights. Usually, a faulty or defective fog lamp will cause several symptoms that may alert the driver to a problem.

Fog lights are dim or flickering

One of the most common symptoms of a fog light bulb problem is dim or flickering fog lights. If the fog lights suddenly become dimmer than usual or flicker when turned on, this could be a sign that the bulbs are worn out. In addition to not providing adequate lighting, normally dim or flickering light bulbs are also nearing the end of their lifespan, and there is probably very little time left before they completely fail.

Fog lights won't turn on

Another sign of a problem with the fog/high beam bulbs is the fog/high beam headlights not turning on. If the bulbs break or the filament wears out for any reason, the fog lights will be left without working bulbs. Broken or non-working light bulbs must be replaced to restore fog lights to working order.

Fog lights are just like any other bulbs. While fog lights are only used in certain driving conditions, they are an important feature that can improve safety. If you suspect your fog/high beam headlights are burned out, have your vehicle checked by a professional technician such as AvtoTachki to determine if your vehicle needs fog/high beam bulb replacement.
