braking system. Diagnostics and proper maintenance

braking system. Diagnostics and proper maintenance Winter travel is a serious test for the braking system. High levels of humidity, low temperatures and changing road conditions can damage it.

In order for the system to fulfill its primary role and guarantee driving safety, it must be in working order and regularly checked. Do not put off a visit to a service center if you notice a deterioration in braking performance and the appearance of unwanted noise when braking.

“The brake system is one of the most important elements in a car, so its maintenance, like changing tires, should be entrusted to specialized workshops. For example, a bent hub is an increasingly common problem resulting from unprofessional tire fitting work. It should also be remembered that periodic checks of the brake system are not enough to ensure its full performance. explains Tomasz Drzewiecki, Director of Retail Development at Premio Opony-Autoserwis in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Ukraine.

The brake system consists of several elements - discs, pads, drums and pads that are subject to wear during the operation of the car. Regular checks are a guarantee of its full functionality. An inspection of the brake system, taking into account, in particular, the state of wear of the brake pads and discs, as well as the quality of the brake fluid, should be carried out at each tire change. The system should also be tested by a service center before every long journey, such as on vacation, and always when the vehicle's behavior on the road is disturbing or unusual noises are noticed when braking.

Brake fluid condition

When inspecting the brake system, an important item on the checklist is to assess the quality and condition of the brake fluid. Its role is to transfer pressure from the brake pedal to the brake pads (shoes, pads). The fluid works in a closed circuit, but over time it loses its parameters and becomes more susceptible to high temperatures, which significantly reduces braking efficiency. This can be checked with a special device for measuring the boiling point. Too low means a fluid change is required and is also required if any contamination is found. If the driver neglects the brake fluid, the brake system can overheat and even completely lose braking function. “We recommend checking the condition of the brake fluid in every car service. Its periodic replacement should take place every two years or more often, depending on driving style. It is worth remembering that the choice of brake fluid cannot be random and must match the design of the car – including additional systems such as ABS or ESP,” advises Maria Kiselevich from Premio Autoponwe Wrocław.
