Driver assistance systems i.e. more safety

Driver assistance systems i.e. more safety The level of safety in a car is not only the number of airbags or the ABS system. It is also a whole set of systems that support the driver while driving.

The development of technology, especially electronics, has allowed car manufacturers to develop systems that not only improve safety in extreme situations, but are also useful for the driver while driving. These are so-called assistance systems such as emergency braking, lane keeping assistant or parking assistant.

Driver assistance systems i.e. more safetyFor several years, systems of this type have become an important element in the equipment of new models of leading car manufacturers. At the same time, if until recently such systems were equipped with cars of a higher class, now they are used to equip cars for a wider group of buyers. Including many auxiliary systems have been included in the equipment list of the new Skoda Karoq.

Of course, every driver has happened to deviate from his lane, either unintentionally or due to objective circumstances, for example, being blinded by the sun (or at night due to incorrectly adjusted headlights of the car in front). This is a potentially dangerous situation because you could suddenly enter the oncoming lane, cross the road to another driver, or pull over to the side of the road. This threat is countered by Lane Assist, that is, lane assistant. The system operates at speeds above 65 km/h. If the Skoda Karoq tires approach the lines drawn on the road and the driver does not turn on the turn signals, the system warns the driver by initiating a slight rut correction that is felt on the steering wheel.

Cruise control is a useful tool on the road, and especially on the highway. However, sometimes it may happen that we approach the vehicle in front at a dangerous distance, for example, in a situation where our car overtakes another car. Then it is good to have active cruise control - ACC, which allows not only to maintain the speed programmed by the driver, but also to maintain a constant, safe distance from the vehicle in front. If this car slows down, the Skoda Karoq will slow down too.

Driver assistance systems i.e. more safetyWhat if the driver overshoots and crashes into the back of another car? Such situations are by no means uncommon. While in urban traffic they usually end up in an accident, at higher speeds outside of built-up areas they can have serious consequences. The Front Assist emergency braking system can prevent this. If the system detects an impending collision, it warns the driver in stages. But if the system determines that the situation in front of the car is critical - for example, the vehicle in front of you brakes hard - it initiates automatic braking to a complete stop. The Skoda Karoq Front Assist comes as standard.

Front Assist also protects pedestrians. If you try to dangerously cross the road of the car, the system initiates an emergency stop of the car at speeds from 10 to 60 km/h, i.е. at speeds developed in populated areas.

Modern technologies also support monotonous driving in traffic jams. Every driver knows that constant starting and braking, even at a distance of several kilometers, is much more tiring than driving a few tens of kilometers. Therefore, a traffic jam assistant will be a useful solution. The system, which can also be fitted to the Karoq, keeps the vehicle in lane at speeds below 60 km/h and is responsible for automatic steering, braking and acceleration of the vehicle.

Driver assistance systems i.e. more safetyThe electronics can also monitor the vehicle's surroundings. Let's take an example. If we want to overtake a slower moving vehicle, we check in the side mirror to see if someone behind us has started such a maneuver. And here's the problem, because most side mirrors have a so-called. blind zone, a zone that the driver will not see. But if his car is equipped with Blind Spot Detect, i.e. blind spot monitoring system, the driver will be informed of the possible risk by the LED on the exterior mirror lighting up. If the driver gets dangerously close to the detected vehicle or turns on the warning light, the LED will flash. This system also appeared in the Skoda Karoq offer.

So does the parking exit assistant. This is a very useful solution in shopping mall parking lots, as well as wherever exiting a parking lot means exiting onto a public road. If another vehicle is approaching from the side, you will hear a warning horn accompanied by a visual warning on the monitor inside the vehicle. If necessary, the car will automatically brake.

Braking is also linked to the lift assist, which allows the machine to be reversed on slopes without the risk of rolling and without the need for the handbrake.

The use of driver assistance systems not only helps the driver, but also improves driving safety. A driver unencumbered by absorptive activities can pay more attention to driving.
