SK Innovation with a factory in Poland! The choice fell on Dąbrowa Górnicza

Korean electrical cell manufacturer SK Innovation has officially announced the construction of a lithium-ion cell component plant in Poland. The choice fell on the Silesian Voivodeship of Dбbrowa Gornicz. Construction work will begin in the third quarter of 2019. Serial production will begin in the third quarter of 2021.

The Polish plant will produce components for electrical cells: separators (spacers), that is, membranes that separate electrical cells from each other. The manufacturer focuses on two categories: LiBS and CCS, that is, classic separators (LiBS) and ceramic-coated separators (CCS), which reduce the likelihood of element ignition in the event of a failure.

SK Innovation plans to spend 335 million euros in Poland, which is equivalent to 1,44 billion zlotys (source). Four LiBS and three CCS production lines will be built. The planned production volume of LiBS separators is 340 million square meters per year. All factories of the Korean manufacturer should produce 2021 billion square meters of membranes in 1,2, which will allow the production of several tens (50-60) GWh of cells.

Works on the construction of the plant in Poland are coordinated by SK hi-tech battery materials Poland Sp. z oo Plants will be opened in Dбbrowa Gornicza.

Editor's note: "LIB" originally appeared in the body of the text. This is a reflex. "LIB" are just Li-Ion batteries and the separators are labeled "LiBS" or "LIBS". We apologize for the mistake.
