Does Skoda CitigoE iV take a long and slow charge from a standard outlet? This is due to the default setting:

A concerned reader wrote to us that his Skoda CitigoE iV charges very slowly from a 230 V outlet. The car replenished energy from 7 to 100 percent in 29,25 hours, which completely interfered with its efficient operation. It turned out to be the problem of Skoda's internal limitations.

Skoda CitigoE iV and faster charging from the socket

Shortly speaking: by default the car can be limited to 5 ampsprobably so as not to overheat the outlet and prevent a fire.

5 amperes corresponds to 1,15 kW (= 5 A x 230 V), therefore it will take more than 30 hours to fully charge the Skoda CitigoE iV battery from zero to full charge. Meanwhile, ordinary household outlets should easily handle 10 amps (some: 12 or 16 amps), which equates to a charging power of 2,3 kW. Twice the power, twice the cable length.

To change the amperage:

  1. enter the application Move and have fun,
  2. when parked, go to the scalloped tongue in the lower left corner (settings),
  3. w Setting select card electronic manager,
  4. on the map Instant charging / charging second option from the top Maximum charging current,
  5. standard Maximum charging current в 5... You must change this setting to 10.

Other options available: 13 i maximum... If we are sure that we have a socket that allows higher currents, we choose another option. Do not forget about this option even when it turns out that the car replenishes energy more slowly than from the charging stand.

This option does not affect DC fast charging.

If we want to feel better, we can also change the maximum battery level, for example, to 80 percent.

Editor's note www.elektrowoz.pl: The above issue may also apply to Seat Mii Electric and VW e-Up. And thanks to Mr. Yaroslav for sharing his knowledge.

Introductory photo: illustrative. Probably while wall box / EVSE can be dispensed with, the car uses a current higher than 5 A.
