Skoda to launch hybrid Superb by 2019

Skoda is set to unveil the Superb hybrid model in 2019, according to a company spokesman.

The top model of the Volkswagen Group brand will borrow hybrid technologies already used in the VW Passat GTE, which is powered by an electric motor and a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine.

Subsequently, it is planned to completely transfer the model to power supply. The number of electrified Skoda models will increase substantially by 2025.

Skoda promises to provide more details on its electrification program early next year.

The Czech company, a subsidiary of the VW Group, is not yet focusing on electrically powered vehicles in its lineup. The reason for this is the high cost of these vehicles. Electric cars are still more expensive than their internal combustion engine counterparts, as the high cost of batteries appears to be expensive.

This poses a problem for brands that rely heavily on low prices, as Skoda does. But now emission limits are getting so tight that car manufacturers can no longer avoid switching to hybrid and all-electric motors. Skoda also sees its EVs in demand in its key Chinese market.
