How much will it save if you don't exceed the speed limit?

Existing scientific formulas have long confirmed these claims. According to them, resistance increases as a quadratic function of speed. As well as if the car is moving at a speed of more than 100 km / h, then most of the fuel consumed is due to air resistance.
Canadian experts decided to calculate the amount of fuel that literally goes "into the air" for a compact city car, family crossover and large SUV. It turns out that when driving at a speed of 80 km / h and three cars lose about 25 hp. on the power of your power unit, since their indicators are practically the same.
Everything changes dramatically with increasing speed. At a speed of 110 km / h, the first car loses 37 hp, the second - 40 hp. and the third - 55 hp. If the driver develops 140 hp. (maximum speed allowed in most countries), then the numbers 55, 70 and 80 hp. respectively.
In other words, adding 30-40 km / h to the speed, fuel consumption increases by 1,5-2 times. This is why the experts are confident that the speed limit of 20 km / h is not only optimal in terms of compliance with traffic rules and safety, but also in terms of fuel economy.
