How much oil for the engine? What to do if there is too much oil in the engine?

If we compare the structure of a car with the human body, the engine could be called its heart, and oil - its blood. In the human case, too low or too high a blood level leads to weakness, other unpleasant ailments, and serious illnesses. The same is true in the case of a car. Too little or too much oil in the engine can lead to minor or rather major and, above all, costly faults.

How often do you check the engine oil level?

Most vehicles manufactured after 1990 are equipped with oil level sensors. Thanks to them, the driver is kept informed of her condition. This meter constantly monitors the level and flow of the liquid with the help of emitted pulses; two or three. Depending on the type of sensors, they provide information on oil temperature, oil level, wear and quality. Based on this data, the sensor sends information to the driver about the need to add engine oil: the corresponding indicator lights up.

No wonder the previous paragraph began with the word "majority". This is because not all vehicles need to provide the driver with access to such a feature; especially the old ones. In the absence of oil level sensors, it is the responsibility of the vehicle user to check its condition. The frequency of the check depends, of course, on the extent to which the vehicle is used; may be needed every few or several days. Be sure to check it before every long journey.

How to check the oil level in old cars?

If your vehicle is not equipped with an oil level gauge, you will use a dipstick. It is an elongated element of the engine, resembling a rather narrow strip. It begins with a distinctive yellow, red, or black handle. With its help, the user can extend the bayonet from the engine. Along its length, it will notice two marked values: max and min. Thanks to them, you can check the oil level. Wipe with a rag to remove excess oil, put back in place, then remove and check where the oil mark is. It must be between min and max. If the max is higher, the level is definitely too high. If below min - too low.

How much oil should be poured into the engine? Correct oil level

Unfortunately, there is no single answer to this question. About it, how much oil should be poured to the engine, decides primarily the power unit of the car. The larger it is, the more it will need to be filled. So it could be 4 liters, or maybe even 10 liters for really big engines. So where do you find out which oil is right for your car?

It is best to look for it in the car's owner's manual. Only by following the manufacturer's recommendations, you can be sure that the oil will be topped up correctly. If the user cannot find the physical document, they can try to find it online or contact an authorized service center. The employee will easily indicate the right amount of oil. It is worth remembering that after checking the capacity of the oil pan, you should buy a compatible fluid canister. Motor oils are available, among other things, in AvtoTachkiu in canisters, usually 1-, 4- and 5-liter.

What should I pay attention to when adding oil?

First of all, you should keep in mind the speed of its replenishment. Engine oil has a very thick consistency and therefore flows slowly into the sump. Patience and caution are key factors in this activity. Therefore, it is always worth adding oil in batches, and taking a break of ten minutes between each of them. This is the optimum time to drain most of the oil from the top of the engine. This action will avoid exceeding its optimal level.

Excess oil in the engine - what could be the consequences?

Most drivers understand that too low an oil level can lead to engine seizure and, as a result, costly repairs. Information about its molt is somewhat less common. What can happen in case excess oil in the engine? First of all, its pressure rises, which usually leads to damage to the seals and leaks. Oil can get on the clutch or timing belt, including shortening their service life. Moreover, the crankshaft will begin to rotate in the oil, thereby increasing its stability in operation. On the other hand, if the optimum level is too high, oil can be sucked into the engine and thus damage it due to acceleration. Diesel is a big problem. The engine starts to run very loudly, the car stops in a puff of smoke, and the unpleasant spectacle lasts until the engine completely stalls or the car catches fire.

What to do if the engine oil level is too high?

Have you spilled oil yet? Definitely don't expect to fail. diesel acceleration. It is enough to get rid of its excess, which is not one of the most difficult tasks. How to drain engine oil? Just slide under the car and unscrew the oil pan drain plug. It comes in the form of a screw. After unscrewing it, the oil will begin to drain. Therefore, it is worth preparing a vessel that will not be difficult to place under the vehicle, and in which the flowing oil will be collected. You should also remember to check the current fluid level after screwing the cap on and top it up carefully in case of too much drainage.

It is definitely worth having a constant monitoring of the oil level and not underestimating any signals sent by the sensors. If your car is not equipped with them, be sure to check if it's time to check its condition!
