How much does an airbag repair cost?

When you are looking for a new car, airbags are one of the essential pieces of equipment. Nothing unusual! They are extremely important during an accident. This is one of those elements that can save the life of both the driver and other people in the vehicle. In the event of an accident, the airbags may need to be replaced. How much will it cost and how to do it right? Check out the average prices and find out which specialist will definitely replace this element correctly. Read our guide!

What are airbags? You must first understand this!

The airbag is a passive element of the car's security system. This helps cushion the body during impact, thus preventing life-threatening injuries. However, it should be noted that it can cause bruising, bruising, and sometimes even broken bones. The speed at which the car was moving at the time of the accident is important. The airbag consists of three components:

  • activation system;
  • gas generator;
  • flexible container (often made from a mixture of nylon and cotton).

For the first time such a pillow appeared in a 1982 Mercedes car. So it's not such an old invention!

Airbag regeneration. The price depends on the number of shots

How much you will have to pay to rebuild airbags will largely depend on how many of them worked. You can find up to 13 of them in the latest vehicles! They protect both the driver and passengers, even in the event of a side impact. It is also worth noting that the exchange price will also depend on the brand of the car. The technology used to create the pillows in a given model will also affect the cost. Airbags typically deploy about 30-40 seconds after they deploy, and the faster they deploy, the more expensive it can be to replace them.

Airbag regeneration. Choose a professional for this task!

There are many cars on Polish roads with refurbished airbags. However, some of these cars are actually more dangerous because of this. Why? Poorly performed airbag regeneration can lead to an accidental explosion and, as a result, death on the road. This risk can apply to almost all cars involved in an accident, so if you can, buy a car that hasn't been involved in similar accidents before. Also, it's a practice for unscrupulous mechanics to place used airbags in the car's interior, which simply won't work properly.

Airbag repair - find out the average prices

Restoring airbags can be very expensive. Replacing the driver's airbag costs about 800-100 euros, in the case of a passenger's airbag, it costs from 250 to 40 euros per piece. Therefore, if the car, for example, has 10 airbags, it may turn out that you will pay even several thousand zlotys for repairs. Sometimes the cost sometimes even exceeds the cost of the car itself, so the owners of older models do not dare to repair it. If the airbags deploy, the dashboard will need to be repaired, which can cost up to €300. The price depends on the brand of the car and its age.

Airbag regeneration. Everything must be well secured.

Airbag repairers often assemble new parts by gluing them in various (not necessarily recommended by the manufacturer) methods. Therefore, if you still want to drive your vehicle despite the accident, make sure the mechanic does not use unnecessary glue or different types of tape. These add-ons can prevent the airbags from working properly. Unfortunately, they may simply not be able to inflate or even force the entire dashboard to rise towards the passenger. And it can end very badly! Therefore, the accuracy of airbag regeneration should be a priority.

Airbags - was the repair carried out in a used car?

When buying a car, be sure to check if the airbags have been replaced. This is pretty easy to spot. Usually the replaced dashboard will be a slightly different color. Therefore, inspect the car as carefully as possible, preferably in daylight. Thus, you will notice the difference. The dealer, of course, must inform you that the car has been involved in an accident, but you should also rely on your own vigilance.

Airbag regeneration is not always the result of an accident

However, please note that a deployed airbag does not necessarily mean an accident! Sometimes he just shoots. Why is airbag regeneration sometimes necessary? There can be many reasons, such as incorrect assembly at the factory, other damage that occurred during the operation of the car, or sudden and very hard braking.

Airbags are not always safe

Airbags certainly improve safety, but remember that airbags are not always completely safe! If you sit crookedly on the seat, you may find that the airbag deployment will cause you serious harm. Also be sure to turn them off when traveling with a small child. The force of the explosion of this protection is so great that in the case of a small person it can even lead to death. Fortunately, in almost every vehicle, the manufacturer has provided the ability to turn off this element while the child is being transported. Does your car not have this option? An alternative would be to place the car seat in the back seat of the car.

As you can see, airbag repairs are expensive. However, if you have a newer car and want to keep driving it after an accident, this would be a smart option. Another thing is when your car is old and does not cost much. Then such regeneration will be unprofitable.
