Bike Conversion Bonus Coming Soon?

The government amended on March 25 calling for the conversion bonus to be extended to bicycles and e-bikes.

The flagship measure of the car modernization plan over the years, the conversion surcharge, also called the scrappage surcharge, provides financial support in the event that an old gasoline or diesel vehicle is scrapped. Reserved for the most environmentally friendly cars, trucks and two-wheeled motorized vehicles, the device may soon be extended to bicycles.

On Thursday, March 25, the government introduced amendment asking to change the energy code for the purpose of establishing assistance in the acquisition of clean vehicles, including cycles and cycles of auxiliary pedaling, (...) subject to the disposal of polluting vehicles .

For the government, this means better support for bicycle development by increasing the conversion surcharge for people looking to replace an old car with an electric bike or bike. At the same time, the government is increasing the likelihood” extend the bonus to legal entities purchasing a cargo bike .

If the government-proposed amendment still has a long legislative road to go before it is passed, the prospect of its implementation will be a big win for the entire cycling industry.

It remains to decide on the details of the device. As with the car, this bike conversion bonus must be disposed of before 2011 diesel or a gasoline vehicle registered before 2006. As far as the allocated amounts are concerned, they will necessarily be lower than those provided for the electric scooters that are already eligible. Subject to income, the scooter conversion surcharge rises to € 1 for people whose RFR is less than € 100 13. Otherwise, or for a legal entity, the amount of the award is limited to only 500 euros ...
