When the production of licensed VAZ cars began in the USSR in the 70s, the issue of providing these cars with the necessary auto chemical products was also being resolved. In particular, filling with greases was initially carried out with the original compositions Jota-1, Jota-2 and Jota-3. Then it was considered expedient to switch to domestic products. This is how the Fiol line of greases appeared, the name of which indicates a relationship with the corresponding Italian counterparts (Fiol - from Fiat and olive).

General features of Fiol lubricants

The nuances in the compositions of the Fiol and Jota lines are not easy to detect even for a specialist, but this is not important: the main components here and there practically coincide, there is some difference only in the production technologies of the components. The characteristic features of Fiol greases are:

The presence of molybdenum disulfide as an extreme pressure lubricant component.
Reduced Thickener Percentage: This reduces the driver's muscular effort to steer the vehicle.
Adaptation to the design of passenger cars in terms of permissible loads, shear strength, etc.
Ease of use when using syringes, in particular, small fluctuations in viscosity with changes in external temperature.

The interchangeability of Fiol mineral lubricants with other domestic products of a similar purpose is limited.For example, in some manuals it is allowed to replace the lubricant in question with an analogue such as Litol-24.

Fiol-1

Grease, the production of which is carried out in accordance with the requirements of TU 38.UkrSSR 201247-80. The product of the Fiol-1 brand is characterized by increased plasticity, and resists low temperatures quite well (although its bearing capacity is less than that of other lubricants in this line).

Performance indicators:

The type of thickener is lithium soap.
Suitable for temperatures -40^°C… + 120^°C.
Liquefaction (according to GOST 6793-74) occurs at 185^°C.
Kinematic viscosity parameter, Pa s - 200.
Internal shear resistance, Pa, not less than 200.

The use of Fiol-1 lubricant is recommended for such automotive components as control cables of small (up to 5 mm) diameter, lower central steering joints, transmission shafts.

Fiol-2U

Universal grease, produced in accordance with the requirements of TU 38 101233-75. It is characterized by an increased percentage of molybdenum disulfide, which increases the anti-wear properties of the product without compromising other parameters, which are:

The thickener is a metallic soap based on lithium salts.
Scope: -40^°C… + 120^°C.
Liquefaction limit (according to GOST 6793-74) corresponds to 190°C.
Viscosity value, Pa s - 150.
Specific shear resistance of the inner layers, Pa, not less than 300.

Increased content of MoS₂ accelerates the running-in of bearing pairs. Fiol-2U is also effective for other friction units experiencing medium loads.

The production technology and properties of the Fiol-3 lubricant must comply with the standards of TU 38.UkrSSR 201324-76:

The type of thickener is a high molecular weight soap made from lithium salts.
Scope of use: -40^ºC… + 120^°C.
The beginning of liquefaction (according to GOST 6793-74) - not lower than 180^°WITH;
Specific resistance to internal shear, Pa, not less than 250.

Fiol-3 grease is used for application in friction units of transport mechanisms, the loads on which do not exceed 200 Pa.

Fiol's range of greases are NLGI (American Lubricant Institute) compliant.
