Police call

The first step is to call the police station and tell them what happened. A task force will arrive at the scene, which will record the fact of the theft - they will take photographs, study the traces, and take fingerprints. This is part of their duties, although they can immediately tell you that the case is hopeless and no one will look for anything. It all depends on how you will talk to them - you can silently put up or demand that they fulfill their duties.

In parallel with the police, you need to call the insurance company (provided that you have CASCO).

After the investigators examine the crime scene, you will be asked to go with them to the department to write a statement and testify. They, in turn, will give you a coupon-decree to initiate a criminal case.

The application must indicate:

• the circumstances of the case - the time where the car was located;
• manufacturer, name, type of rubber and disks - all this is indicated on the sidewalls of the tires and stamped on the disks themselves;
• serial number - usually indicated in the warranty card, it is available on each tire.

If the case is hopeless, then it will be closed only after two months, although you yourself can help the police by looking through ads for the sale of used rubber or walking through the boxes where they sell rubber. Sometimes this helps, as stolen wheels are brought to such dealers.

Insurance company

Let's say right away that it is worth contacting it only for CASCO. In addition, the contract should contain clear instructions on how to proceed in such cases.

You can get a denial of payment in the following cases:

• under the contract, the theft of wheels is not damage;
• parking rules were violated - the car was in an unguarded parking lot (this item should be specified in the contract);
• wheels are not factory-fitted, or have not been insured as optional equipment.

The last point requires clarification: when insuring a new car, the brand of wheels is indicated in the act. If you changed them and did not notify the UK, then you can not count on compensation. Therefore, after purchasing new tires, they must be insured as additional equipment.

There may be such a clause: provided that no damage was caused to the vehicle during the theft, the UK pays nothing. You can take advantage of this, for example, by breaking a headlight or a rear-view mirror, and write it off as thieves. Accordingly, you will have to make up for all the damage.

Well, if the UK still refuses to pay for far-fetched reasons, you have 10 days to go to court. As practice shows, car owners manage to win most cases, except for those cases when the car was insured on other wheels.

If you have only OSAGO, then there is no point in calling an agent from the UK, because this is not an insured event.

How to protect yourself from wheel theft?

Smart people prefer to prevent theft, rather than look for thieves and sue the insurance company.

• garage, guarded parking, parking - they can steal here too, but the probability is extremely small, besides, you can demand compensation from the parking administration;
• tilt angle sensors - connected to the alarm and if the roll angle changes, the alarm is triggered;
