In winter, driving a car causes many problems and difficulties. Here are some tips that will definitely come in handy before you go on vacation.

When parking, always try to park the car facing the direction of travel, because during snowfall we may have problems getting out. When we are buried in even a few centimeters of mud or snow, we must move very calmly. Adding too much gas is not worth it, because the wheels will spin, heat up and ice will form under them, which will make it even more difficult for us to move. When leaving the snow, you should move gently and smoothly on the clutch half. We also need to make sure the steering wheel is set to straight ahead.

In winter, even a dry and snow-free road can be dangerous. For example, when approaching an intersection, when braking, we may encounter the so-called black ice, that is, asphalt covered with a thin layer of ice. Therefore, in winter it is necessary to slow down much earlier, preferably with an engine, in order to reach the intersection by inertia. In a car without ABS, pulse braking should be used, i.e. quick application and release of the brake.

You need to be especially careful in the mountains, where turns are usually narrow and require a significant reduction in speed, especially on long descents. The main purpose of speed control in the mountains is the engine and gearbox. On steep descents, take your foot off the gas pedal and brake with the engine. If the car continues to accelerate, we must downshift or help ourselves with the brake. We brake smoothly, without blocking the wheels.

Going uphill is also more difficult. For example, it may happen that we are standing on the roadway and cannot start, or the car begins to roll dangerously backwards. More often than not, we instinctively apply the brakes, but often this has no effect. In the meantime, it is enough to apply the handbrake and thus block the rear wheels, and the situation will be under control.
