Specialized launches ultralight electric mountain bike

The latest creation of the American manufacturer Specialized Turbo Levo SL has its own electric motor and differs in weight, much less than its price.

The electric mountain bike is gaining momentum and the big brands are realizing this very well. After leaving this segment only to Chinese manufacturers, all the big names in this cycle are now positioned with more and more innovative models. While the race for autonomy is a daily routine for most manufacturers, Specialized takes a completely different approach, addressing another equally important point for the user: weight! While most electric mountain bikes easily exceed 20 kilograms, the American brand has managed to release a model that weighs just 17,3 kilograms.

Dubbed the Turbo Levo SL, it features a compact SL 1.1 electric motor directly developed by the company and already used on the Creo SL, an electric racing bike. With up to 240 W of power and 35 Nm of torque, it weighs only 2 kg. The flip side of the coin: to limit the weight, the manufacturer opted for a small battery. The capacity is 320 Wh, it is located right in the lower tube. As for autonomy, the manufacturer generously announces 5 hours.

Like the rest of the models, the Levo SL connects and can be linked to the Mission Control app. Available on a mobile device, it allows the user to tune the engine operation, operate it autonomously or record its output.

Mounted on 29-inch tires, the Specialized Turbo Levo SL is available in a variety of configurations, the differences being mainly in the bike part. In terms of price, this high-end electric mountain bike is clearly not cheap. Consider € 5999 for the “entry-level” version and € 8699 XNUMX for the best-equipped version.
