Accident certificate - how to get it for the insurance company?

To receive payments under OSAGO or CASCO, it is necessary to attach a certificate under the number 154 - “Accident certificate” to the standard set of documents. This document contains standard incident information:

  • names of participants;
  • the exact time of the accident;
  • license plates and VIN codes of vehicles;
  • series and number of OSAGO and CASCO insurance policies (if any);
  • data and victims and damage to each of the vehicles.

All this information is indicated on a standard two-sided form, which, according to current legislation, must be filled out by an employee of the State traffic inspectorate directly at the scene. But, as often happens, for one reason or another, traffic police inspectors shirk their direct duties, citing various reasons: lack of a form, workload, the need to urgently go on other equally important matters.

These excuses can only be accepted if there are victims and they are sent to the hospital. After a complete examination of patients delivered to medical institutions, this information should be indicated in the accident certificate No. 154.

The driver may face problems due to which the receipt of compensation payments from the IC is jeopardized:

  • The traffic police delays issuing a certificate;
  • not all damages are indicated in the form No. 154 - this can happen if it is not possible to fully assess the level of damage directly at the accident site;
  • in the department of the State traffic inspectorate they demand money for obtaining a certificate or they say that it will be ready only in 10-15 days.

Step-by-step instructions for obtaining a certificate of an accident

Before describing in detail all the points related to obtaining this document, it should be noted that there are a number of cases when insurance payments can be received without form No. 154:

  • The accident was registered according to the Europrotocol - we previously wrote about this procedure on Vodi.su;
  • both participants in the collision have OSAGO policies;
  • There are no disagreements between the participants in the accident regarding the culprit of the accident.

That is, if you are not going to sue the opposite party, draw up a European protocol on the spot, or everyone has OSAGO or an insurance agent arrives at the place, then you do not need to fill out Form No. 154. Although, knowing how confusing our legislation is, it is better to draw up this document.

So, if you have an accident, you need to follow the following procedure. We call the traffic police. It is imperative to call them if there are victims - injured or even dead people. If the accident is not serious, we draw up a European protocol and fix the damage on the photo.

The arrived inspector draws up a report on the inspection of the accident in the presence of two witnesses and a certificate of the accident. The certificate is filled in two copies and each must contain a corner wet stamp. A copy remains in the traffic police department.

Pay attention to this item - You can make changes to the form only until it is certified by a seal. If, after a certain period of time, it turns out that not all damages were entered, or errors were made regarding the place, time and circumstances of the accident, then amendments certified by the traffic police inspector are allowed. Or you will have to conduct an independent examination, the results of which will be considered as an annex to the certificate. That is, at night the inspector did not notice all the damage, and only in the morning during the diagnostics you saw that not only the hood was dented, but also the radiator was broken - all edits must be made in order to receive full, not partial compensation.

To summarize: the accident certificate number 154 contains all primary information about the traffic accident. It does not indicate the cause of the accident..

What to do?

A certificate alone is not enough to receive insurance payments. It is necessary to add a decision on an accident to the package of documents in the UK. It is drawn up by the investigator and contains information about which of the parties is to blame for the accident. If the issue of the culprit is considered in court, then the conclusion of an independent expert will also be mandatory.

Deadlines for obtaining and submitting a certificate to the UK

Another important issue, since the insurance contract specifies the deadlines for submitting documents about the accident for consideration. So, according to the law, form No. 154 must be issued directly at the scene, or within the next day.

The certificate is valid for 3 years. In the event of damage to health or death, the document is indefinite. If the certificate has been lost, you can contact the traffic police department and get a photocopy, but with all the seals confirming its authenticity.

The deadline for submitting an accident report to the UK is 15 days. But the sooner you apply, the sooner you will receive compensation.
