Battery change stations for Honda electric scooters

Combine electric scooters with a battery self-service system. This is the goal of Honda, which, together with Panasonic, is preparing to launch the first experiment on Indonesian soil.

In practice, Honda is planning several copies of its Mobile Power Pack, an automated station for recharging and redistributing batteries. The principle is simple: at the end of charging, the user goes to one of the stations, replacing his discharged battery with a fully charged new one. One way to solve the problem of charging times for electric vehicles, which can take several hours on an electric scooter or motorcycle.

Several dozen charging stations are planned to be deployed in Indonesia. They will be associated with a fleet of electric PCXs, the 125 equivalent developed by Honda and presented as a concept at the latest edition of the Tokyo Motor Show.

An experiment to enable Honda and Panasonic to validate the technical and economic feasibility of the system, as well as evaluate its daily use. A solution reminiscent of what has already been launched by Gogoro, which offers several hundred battery replacement stations in Taiwan linked to its fleet of electric scooters.
