Like before start

The advent of smartphones has changed the world. We are not talking about the revolution that took place in the field of telecommunications and electronics, but the revolution in thinking and perception of what energy is, or rather its absence. After all, everyone at least once had a problem with a dead phone at the most inopportune moment. The lack of power in the device was able to release the energy focused on the emotions expressed by the annoyed users of color display phones. More than one cell has fallen victim to anger due to lack of energy. Fortunately, someone invented power banks - and it was probably a person related to electrical engineering. Electrical engineering is a major subject at most polytechnic universities in Poland. It is also offered by universities and academies. Therefore, the candidate should not have any special problems with finding a school for himself. However, obtaining an index for the selected university can be problematic.

For example, when recruiting for the 2018/2019 academic year, the Krakow University of Technology recorded 3,6 candidates per seat. Thus, competition is expected and the way to deal with it is to pass the matura at a sufficiently high level. Electrical engineering is first and foremost mathematics, so a well-written, extended version of the Abitur exam is recommended. To this we add physics or computer science and there is a chance to enter a noble group of students in this direction.

Engineering education lasts 3,5 years, while the master's degree takes one and a half years. Doctoral studies are available to graduates with an interest in the subject who consider themselves scientists.

Save energy, distribute power

It is difficult to say whether these exercises are easy or difficult. As always, it depends on: the university, teachers, group level, own predispositions and skills. Many people have serious problems with mathematics and physics, but it is not a fact that the faculty choosing these subjects will be extremely difficult, and in turn vector analysis and programming will not work.

For this reason, opinions regarding the level of difficulty in this area are very divided. Therefore, we propose not to analyze them in detail, but to focus on systematic training so that there is no unexpected adventure with an amendment or a condition in the main role.

The first year is usually the period in which the most strength and effort is required from the student. This is probably due to a change in the education system to which a high school graduate is accustomed.

The new form of knowledge transfer, combined with the high rate of new information being provided and the organization of time, which requires much more independence, makes learning difficult. Not everyone can handle it. Many drop out or drop out at the end of their second term. Not all data will be saved to the end.

As already mentioned, it depends on many factors, but rarely all of them reach the defense, and many extend their stay at the university for a year or two. So what are you going to face?

At the beginning, the above-mentioned mathematics, and there are a lot of them here, as many as 165 hours. There are stories in some colleges about how the “queen of sciences” successfully weeded out student after student, leaving only the most persistent for a year. Usually she is helped by physics in the amount of 75 hours. Sometimes the math is benevolent and doesn't wreak havoc, leaving room for circuit theory and electrical devices to brag about.

The core content group also includes 90 hours of computer science and 30 hours of materials science, geometry and engineering graphics, and numerical methods. The content of the course includes: high voltage technology, mechanics and mechatronics, electrical devices, energy, electromagnetic field theory.

The content of the course will vary depending on the specialization chosen by the student. For example, at Łódź University of Technology, you can choose between: automation and metrology, energy and electromechanical converters. In comparison, the Warsaw University of Technology offers: power engineering, electromechanics of electric vehicles and machines, industrial electronics, embedded systems, lighting and multimedia technology, as well as high voltage technology and electromagnetic compatibility.

However, in order to get to the moment of choosing a specialization, you first need to study hard and properly distribute forces - especially since it is worth having enough time for student life. however, this is not one of the "entertainment" destinations. It is usually made up of a group of students (mostly men) who are aware of how much time they have to devote to their studies in order to complete the difficult task of getting, for example, a triple from the schemes. Entertainment here is inversely proportional to the requirements of the university.

Feel free to look to the future

Graduation is usually only the beginning of a difficult journey that a graduate must go through before he or she is satisfied with the choice made. However, in the current economic situation, the rest of the path is not so difficult and thorny. After graduation, everyone would like to act in the profession, and since there are usually no employees now, an electrical engineer should not have problems with employment. Within a week, from a few to a dozen new job ads appear.

Demonstration expected by employers can be unpleasant experience, but as they say, for those who wish, there is nothing complicated. You can easily find paid internships and apprenticeships while you study. Part-time students can take jobs that do not require engineering qualifications, and thus gain experience that allows them to get a stable job after their defense.

The scope of electrical knowledge is extensive, so the opportunities to find yourself in the profession are quite large. You can find jobs in, among others: design offices, banks, services, production supervision, IT services, energy, research institutes and even trade. Initial earnings are at the level 5 thousand Polish zlotys grossand depending on the progress made, knowledge, skills, positions and companies, they will grow.

An excellent chance for development in the profession is a focus on energy sectorwhich has long been one of the most important topics in the world. Due to the development of technology, the use of new natural resources and the depreciation of others, energy policy requires the creation of new jobs for qualified electrical engineers. This allows you to look to the future with the hope of a good job and the opportunity to realize your profession.

In addition to wages, it is also an important element satisfaction with what you do. it requires concentration and attention from the student. The knowledge imparted during study forms the basis for further development, which is possible only with full dedication, which, in turn, requires passion. Electrical engineering is a direction for people whose interests are related to this field of science. This destination is for everyone who knows they'll love it before they start...
