Washing car upholstery - washing machines and steamers - a good solution?

You can easily wash the car upholstery yourself. How to do this so that the work goes efficiently? We answer!

Dry cleaning of the car interior - on your own or in the service?

The first dilemma faced by the car user is the choice of how to clean the upholstery. Is it better to do it yourself or leave the car to a professional? The answer depends primarily on what the driver expects. Self-washing is not particularly difficult. Cleaning the upholstery of a car from fresh, running stains (for example, on the seat, after coffee) usually requires rubbing a special agent with a sponge over the entire surface of the seat until they become invisible. The entire process should take no more than a few minutes. On the other hand, handing over the car to a professional means spending extra time traveling and investing between PLN 200 and PLN 500 (depending on the size of the car and the type of upholstery).

And if you need to thoroughly wash the sofas - not only from visible current stains, but also a general refreshment of color and disinfection? Then at home, you can use a washing machine or steamer for upholstery. How effective are both solutions?

Steam car upholstery washing - does it work?

Both washing machines and steamers use hot steam for their work. In their case, the use of detergents for cleaning or washing surfaces is not required.

High pressure steam dissolves dirt. In addition, it has disinfectant properties; removes up to 99% of bacteria and fungi. An added benefit of using steam as a cleaning agent is that it is hypoallergenic; it does not cause allergies, and the car disinfected by it does not need to be ventilated from any fumes. Thanks to this, washing car upholstery using steamers or washing machines is safe for allergy sufferers, asthmatics, children and the elderly.

Upholstery steam cleaners - how do they work and what are the types?

A steam cleaner and a steamer are devices that, thanks to a built-in boiler, heat water in a special tank to the boiling point and distribute the resulting steam over a given surface using a nozzle. On the market, you can find compact upholstery steam cleaners and slightly larger devices that visually resemble a traditional wheeled vacuum cleaner and are called steam cleaners or steam cleaners. They also work very similarly; attach one of the many possible ends to a long spring tube and use it to spread the steam over the surface. The rest of the device can stand behind the machine. On the other hand, in the case of manual washing, the user holds the entire device in the air and disinfects the predetermined space with a suitable cap attached to the nozzle.

Can upholstery washers be used on other surfaces?

An additional advantage of these devices is their universal use. What surfaces can a steam cleaner be useful for?

  • wall tiles,
  • floors
  • countertops,
  • ceramics for bathroom and kitchen,
  • run away
  • hobs,
  • gas stoves,
  • nooks and crannies under furniture,
  • furniture upholstery,
  • animal beds,

Steamer or washing machine for upholstered furniture - what to look for when buying?

So we can safely say that cleaning the upholstery of a car using a steamer is a really effective and convenient solution. Requires almost a minimum of participation from the user - no need to rub the surface or rinse off the detergent. It is enough to accurately draw the tip of the washer over a given surface so that each fragment (for example, chairs) is evenly washed and disinfected. And which washing machine or upholstery steamer should you choose to enjoy its long life and really high stain removal performance? Here are the options to pay attention to:

  • Vapor pressure is expressed in bar. The higher, i.e. more stripes, the more powerful the steam flow and, therefore, the stronger the level of cleaning.
  • Power - in this case, you should pay attention to the number of watts. And again, the higher the better. More power means more pressure
  • Water heating time - determination of the ready-to-work time. It determines how quickly the washing machine or steamer starts to generate steam. This usually takes about 3 minutes.
  • Water tank capacity - the larger the tank, the longer the user will be able to work without the need to refuel. It can be from 100 to even 1000 ml.
  • Length of cable or pipe - make sure your upholstery steam cleaner allows you to work comfortably!
  • The weight of the device is combined with the capacity of the tank (i.e. always + X ml). This is especially important in the case of manual washing machines; the lighter it is, the less effort you will have to clean.
  • The number and type of endings - the more and more diverse they are, the more places and nooks and crannies you will get. For example, you'll need a special floor nozzle to clean the floor of your car, and a narrow end nozzle for narrow spaces between seats.
