Is it worth changing the oil in winter? [video] Which oil works best in winter conditions? Is it worth changing it with the onset of the first frost or is it better to wait with it until spring?

Is it worth changing the oil in winter? [video]Winter is just around the corner, which means that at any moment a wave of frosts can come. The drop in temperature causes the engine oil to thicken, which can lead to starting problems. There are those who are not afraid of sub-zero temperatures, but there are many indications that changing the oil in winter is not a good idea.

“It's a pity for the new oil,” says Krzysztof Woronecki, host of TVN Turbo's You'll Be Satisfied program. “In winter, trace amounts of fuel get into the oil, which loses its parameters,” he explains.

His opinion is confirmed by Tomasz Mydlowski from the Faculty of Automobiles and Construction Machinery of the Warsaw University of Technology. In his opinion, synthetic and semi-synthetic oils, such as 0W and 10W, are sufficient for the needs of our climate.

"Let's keep the oil level at about half the scale and we'll be fine," he says.

The situation is different with mineral oils.

– If we use them, we should change them before winter. At low temperatures, this oil spreads more slowly through the engine, which can harm it, says Andrzej Kulczycki, professor at the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyshinsky.

Interestingly, too frequent oil changes do not have a positive effect on our engine. Professor Kulchitsky argues that, in simple terms, every oil must "pass". If we change it too often, the engine will have to run for a long time on an oil that has not yet adapted to it.
