Knock on the door

Knock on the door Rattling sounds in the door area are usually caused by wear and sometimes improper adjustment.

Knock on the doorThe wear process, which is manifested by a characteristic noise, mainly concerns the door hinges, or rather the axis of their rotation. You can easily see that there is unnecessary play in the pivot pins. Just move the door up and down after opening the door. Even minimal play in the axes of the hinges leads to obvious changes in the position of the door. Before doing this, however, make sure that the hinges are properly tightened, as the play in the threaded connection will increase the possible play in the pivot points of the hinge. If the hinges with excessive play in the axis of rotation are screwed to both the door and the body pillars, it is enough to replace the worn hinges with new ones. However, there are solutions in which the hinges are permanently attached to the door. In this case, you can look for used doors, preferably the same color, or try to restore loose hinges. The latter activity, in addition to the appropriate tools, also requires experience in similar work, which proves that they should be entrusted to a specialized workshop.

In addition to the hinges, the lock and striker assembly mounted on the door pillar is responsible for knocking on the door. Wear on one or both of the interacting elements will result in sufficient clearance between them to allow them to strike one against the other.

In properly adjusted swing doors and locks, the appropriate elasticity of the door seal makes the door virtually immobile after closing. If the deadbolt striker is not correctly located on the stand and the seal, there is insufficient force on the door, then when moving over irregularities, a knock may appear at the junction of the striker and the bolt, even if one or both of these elements have not yet worn out.
