We've been wondering almost since the Subaru Brumby was discontinued - will there ever be another Subaru ute?

And while nothing is set in stone yet, the brand's Australian division acknowledges that there is a huge amount of customer and media interest in the all-new Subaru ute. In addition, he may have the perfect springboard to create such a model - based on the best-selling car in Australia, the Toyota HiLux.

For those who don't know, Subaru and Toyota are business partners in Japan, and Toyota is Subaru's majority shareholder.

The best-known by-product of the collaboration between the two brands is the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 twins, which are due in their second generation at the end of 2021 for both of these brands after nearly a decade of success both locally and internationally.

The companies are also collaborating on a new all-electric vehicle primarily for Europe and plan to share more technology and know-how in future next generation products.

Does this mean we may see a new car sold by Subaru using Toyota's experience and knowledge in this area? Chances are admittedly slim, but as Subaru Australia General Manager Blair Reid said. Cars Guide, "there is always a possibility".

“That kind of discussion about what might be in development is not visible,” Mr. Reid said. "But it's reminiscent of the great example of the BRZ and 86 - and the successful fruits of this partnership between Toyota and Subaru."

Mr. Reed said customers often ask when a new Brumby will arrive, and brand PR manager David Rowley joked that some potential customers even tell him they're looking for a new Brumby "because the prices are getting a little higher." on their original Brumby models. Remember, Brumbies haven't been sold here since 1994.

"There's always that kind of feedback and I think people are always talking about Brumby and Brat (US version) and any car company would love to have all the options available and what you have to offer in the market," he said. Mr Reed.

Unfortunately, there are no clear indications of any plans for a HiLux based Brumby. But if the collective audience makes enough noise, it will only push the case to the production model Subaru Brumby of the new generation.
