Subaru Legacy Outback - conqueror of everyday life

There are few brands on the market that equate to sports. One of them is Subaru. Especially a blue party with gold alloy wheels is associated with higher levels of endorphins than after a good melange. However, this does not mean that all cars of this Japanese manufacturer are like that. What is a Subaru Outback?

Thanks to its sporting success, the event has become partly the "face" of its brand. You could even say that many people think: “If Subaru is Impreza. And if not a party, then nothing.” However, do not forget that the concern also offers several other models, which, perhaps, do not cause much enthusiasm at the very thought, but are intriguing. Why? Because in our country they are something like the original Dolce & Gabbana scarves among the fakes on the Egyptian market - in Poland these cars are simply rare and quite unusual. Besides, the Subaru Outback might surprise you.

OFF-ROAD OR ROAD?

At first glance, Outback is an ordinary station wagon, Legacy with a more practical trunk. However, upon closer inspection, it turns out that something is wrong here. Ground clearance is slightly increased compared to the average car, and power is sent to all wheels. For this constantly. Does this mean the car is an SUV? Let's not go crazy - it does not cover the Paris-Dakar route by far, but it has a number of advantages.

Recently, I noticed that in cities there is a fashion for curbs, which even people find it difficult to climb. Outback defeats them with gusto. And this means that life on the streets of the metropolis is becoming easier. On the other hand, a 4×4 drive may not be able to handle the desert sand, but off-road it is just great. Not only that, it makes snowy winters fun, and turns can be entered at Concorde cruising speed. However, these advantages do not mean that the car holds the record for versatility. Its practicality rests on the luggage compartment - 459 liters in a large station wagon is really not much. But that's not all - the 426 kg payload in a versatile vehicle can be a significant hurdle. In fact, it is enough to put 5 bigger men in the car to find that the car is overloaded and that the luggage needs to be thrown into the Polish Red Cross container. But on the other hand, how often do five big guys go on a trip in the same car? In any case, the Subaru Outback's shortcomings in the package make up for its handling.

SUBARU OUTBACK - COMPROMISE ON THE ROAD

I have to admit that the Japanese have done something to the suspension that is hard to complain about. When you get into the STI Party, you immediately expect that the car will cling to the road at every turn, and overcome most of the holes so that the spine crunches from sensations. In the case of the Outback, you might have a similar thought - it's a Subaru after all. At the same time, the car is really springy and comfortable, it does not tire on long trips. Does that mean it pops out of corners because of its comfort characteristics? Let's not exaggerate - it's still a Subaru! The car rides great and is stable even at high speeds in slalom. Traction control and excellent 4×4 drive only make things better. The suspension not only loves lateral bumps more - the rear end tends to howl softly. However, there is one interesting thing about the Outback - those who expect sports emotions from it will be simply surprised.

ADAPTED FOR EVERY DAY

The weight and all-wheel drive make the engine's power, which might promise a lot on paper, be somewhat bland in practice. In addition, versions with automatic transmission are much better at driving the family to the church than with acceleration - the transmission is slow, although very subtle in its work. Outback engines, on the other hand, have one big advantage - the two-stroke cylinder arrangement, which is the brand's flagship. This gives the bikes a low center of gravity, which improves handling. The diesel too is the only diesel of its type on the market. It has a terrible sound when cold, but when it warms up everything changes. It is quite quiet and behaves interestingly on the road. Only 150 km, and this is surprisingly enough to put a smile on your face. The unit has a uniform set of power and torque. He also responds very spontaneously to the "accelerator" pedal. Plus, it has a wide usable RPM range and likes to climb the tachometer like the petrol options - just as much as the non-diesel ones. What is his problem? Initially with durability. The clutch, dual-mass wheel and diesel particulate filter are also not very wear-resistant. In turn, the smallest gasoline unit has 4 cylinders and a working volume of 2.5 liters. Force? 173/175km, but in this case the Subaru horses are a bit lazy. The engine loves high revs, and that's when you can get the most out of it. While it gets loud, the boxer's characteristic gurgling has a lot of charm, though it sounds especially nice at low speeds. However, this engine is best recommended for calm drivers. The car is a little sluggish, and before overtaking you have to figure out if the driver of the oncoming car sometimes blinks for a long time from fear. Well - the weight and drive 4x4 do the trick. But there is also an option reinforced up to 250 km. The engine leaves the Subaru with a slight displeasure, but despite this, the car definitely comes to life in combination with such power. It is also much more fuel efficient, typically averaging around 11-12L/100km. Although when it comes to station runs, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine of similar power burns the same amount of fuel. For this, he pays with an excellent work culture, quiet sound, good maneuverability and a large dose of driving pleasure. What is the best thing to look for when choosing an Outback?

It is good to approach gasoline engines, knowing that they are still non-standard. Eliminating valve tightening in them is difficult and expensive due to the small space in the cylinder area. Therefore, it is better to clarify this issue before buying. Many people succumb to the offensive nature of these units, so you also have to be careful with the ones you use up. Especially with supercharging - the head gasket burned out or burned out, the sleeves knock - all this is not a phenomenon. Oil consumption is also considerable, and then it is easy to capture. However, the Outback is a simple car that doesn't usually cause any problems. Pretty much every shop should be able to deal with this, and lighting points are mostly electronics and non-permanent suspension. You should especially carefully check the rear ones - they have a self-leveling system and expensive maintenance. However, as you know, the human nation is smart and there are workshops that replace them with classics. Before buying, it is also important to study the steering mechanism and transmission. However, the Outback can be a good everyday companion and is especially good at one thing…

Contrary to what the Impreza has said about the Subaru, the Legacy Outback is not a car that rushes from light to light, and does not even want to be one. Many versions have “electric drives” for windows and mirrors, air conditioning, a set of airbags, and in richer and newer copies, you can also count on a multifunctional screen that can even become a travel planner. This is a machine for everyday use, not rubber. The raised suspension will save the oil pan on our roads, the station wagon will allow you to carry something larger from time to time, and this drive ... Gravel road, snow, slight off-road - in such conditions this car feels great. Not to mention the rider who, thanks to the Outback, sees the snow as fun rather than a curse. But Subaru already has a similar car, the Forester. Why two identical models? In fact, you will have to drive different machines from this manufacturer to understand what they are really good for. Adrenaline lovers will be seduced by the party, practicality lovers will take the Forester, but what about the Outback? His comforters will love him. It's simple - it's a good, Japanese and comfortable car for everyday use.
