Chest of a novice makeup artist - what should be in it?

If everyday makeup turns into a passion, over time it can become a lifestyle. And that means more cosmetics, thanks to which a small everyday chest will grow before our eyes. What does a makeup artist need at the beginning of a professional career? Here's the bare minimum.

How to start a complete set of a basic set of cosmetics? Accessories, make-up, care and accessories to make work easier - this is how it is worth highlighting your first professional chest. We are talking about a clear division, so that the search for a shadow, brush or powder powder lasts seconds and does not require digging to the bottom of the trunk.

Each zone must be properly equipped, observing the necessary minimum. After all, carrying a heavy suitcase, chest or bag is not a pleasure. In this way, we will break up our box-like list and thus avoid clutter, which is the worst enemy of any makeup artist.

Pre-makeup care

The first step in makeup is always care. Usually limited to removing makeup with micellar water, applying a soothing toner, and applying a small amount of base cream or moisturizing base.

This set of formulas should be at your fingertips. What to consider when choosing them? Try to choose products that are simple, natural and gentle, preferably for sensitive skin. The idea is to avoid unnecessary surprises such as irritation or a rash on the face of the person being drawn.

If a person who has problems with complexion sits in your chair, emergency and fixative cosmetics may come in handy, for example:

  • thermal water, i.e. soft hydrolate,
  • sheet moisturizing mask,
  • smoothing eye pads,
  • matting napkins,
  • fog fixer.

Makeup brushes, sponges and accessories

The first set of brushes is also a practice and learning set, and over time it helps us decide what is most important to us and what we like about the quality and shape of the brush. Wooden or plastic? Short or long shafts? Heavy or maybe light? And finally, natural or artificial? The choice is a matter of time and experience with different make-up, occasions and feelings of the people drawn. So there is no need to invest fabulous sums in order to find out in an instant that brushes of this type are not ideal. Everyone has their own preferences in makeup (both in terms of technique and the final effect itself) and it is worth following them.

If you only paint one person a day, and then have time to thoroughly clean and sanitize your tools, fifteen brushes will suffice. Here are the types needed:

  1. The first and most important is the loose powder brush. To keep a minimum of things in the trunk, you can use mineral powder. It should be large, fluffy, pleasant to the touch and resistant to deformation. For a made-up face, the feeling of powdering the face with powder should be pleasant. Do them with light movements so as not to irritate the skin.
  1. In turn, the blush brush can also be used to apply bronzer. In this case, it is also worth choosing a fluffy soft brush with a beveled tip, which adapts to the shape of the cheek and makes it easier to apply the cosmetic product.
  1. Next comes the face contouring and highlighting brush. You can start with a small, rounded tip. The bottom line is not to leave streaks and apply as thin a layer of cosmetics as possible. The rule here is: less is more.
  1. What about eye and brow brushes? There are many options and forms - each with its own function. To make it easier, you should choose a small professional set of five basic brushes: one for blending eyeshadow all over the eyelid, a smaller and narrower one for applying color along the eyelashes, a third for cream or liquid eyeliner, a fourth for highlighting the eyebrows and an accessory: an eyelash detangling brush . The latter can save makeup by removing excess mascara from the eyelashes, which sometimes just sticks them together or leaves lumps. An essential accessory if you are doing makeup for a graphic session.
  1. A good, precise brush would also be helpful lipsticks or lipsticks in cream. It should have a short and flexible tip to evenly cover the lips with color.
  1. On the other hand, for applying fluid, the most hygienic would be a Beauty Blender-type sponge, which will carefully distribute the foundation in liquid or cream and will be useful for blending the concealer around the eyes.
  1. However, if you prefer a classic foundation brush, choose a soft brush with flattened bristles. It should reach hard-to-reach places like the wings of the nose and cover the hairline, jaw and neck gently and quickly without leaving streaks.

The question remains: how brushes easy to organize? Professionals most often choose a brush belt or a special fabric case with compartments. Usually everything can be rolled up and hidden.

In addition to brushes, a chest of drawers should also include several important accessories:

  • eyelash curler (curls straight and delicate eyelashes),
  • tweezers (for removing hair, gluing false eyelashes and jewelry),
  • sharpeners for eyeliner pencils of different sizes,
  • cotton swabs and cotton pads,
  • a jar of powder, on which you will lean with your hand while working (so you will not erase the foundation),
  • classic hand puppets - great for applying shadows from pollen and foil,
  • wet wipes.

Decorative cosmetics in the pro version

Powders, bronzers, highlighters, foundations and eyeshadows is the tip of the iceberg. In order not to go crazy and get lost in the maze of offers, it is worth investing in more extensive palettes. Multiple colors in one box means more order and an easier match of the pigment shade to the skin.

Z liquid foundations it will be more difficult because there are no palettes here, so there is a choice of two or three universal color formulas. On the other hand, powder and cream foundations can be found in sets and you can mix shades with a brush to get the perfect one. You also need to put loose transparent powder in the trunk. It's a must-have, just like the facial concealer palette.

Bronzers and contouring powders this is another palette in the trunk, as well as blush on the cheeks. Remember not to fall into the trap of excess. Try to limit yourself to basic and relatively universal shades. A good solution would be to buy two or three sets containing bronzer, blush and highlighter in different shades. You will be sure that the colors match perfectly. And over time, you will expand your makeup collection as you make sure what you use the most, what shades you like best and what suits the ones you color.

Time for seyeshadow and eyeliner. A smart choice is a palette of glossy, matte and satin eyeshadows. So, three basic sets to start with. The choice of colors is up to you, but we suggest that it be as wide a palette as possible: from black, through browns, purples, to light nude colors.

treat the same pencils and eyeliners – Try to complement primary colors and eye-catching hues such as green, blue and silver. Black mascara, eyebrow shadows, eyebrow gel and mascara base - here you can choose one-time and proven cosmetics. By the way, about mascara and base - to maintain the hygiene of cosmetics, apply them with a special brush, which can then be quickly washed.

Additional features to make your job easier

Hair band and barber clips the kind of clips will secure the strands and make sure that they do not interfere with makeup. In addition, among the additional small accessories for the trunk, it is worth packing a cooling eye mask. Keep it with you to apply when the area of the eyes of the person being drawn is very swollen. This is especially true in the morning, so if you are painting someone in the morning, before a wedding or an important photo shoot, swelling will no longer be a problem, because such a compress will be astringent and give you a few extra minutes of relaxation.
