	pH testing is not specific to soi. Everything has a pH level, and many things require a pH identification. The following are general pH testing methods and specific soil testing alternatives.
General pH indicators
	Litmus paper Litmus paper is the pH tester you probably used in your science class at school. Litmus paper is usually represented by small strips that change color depending on pH. This is not the most efficient soil testing method, as the strips are small and thin, which means they are not suitable for measuring soil below the surface layer. This can be overcome by taking a sample, but it is still a painstaking task.
	Universal indicators A universal indicator is a solution created specifically for displaying the pH of things. It's a bit like the liquid form of litmus paper, changing color with pH. To test soil with a universal indicator, you need to take a soil sample and dilute it to make a solution before adding the indicator. This is not widely available and may require a selection of indicators for different pHs. This method is also not as easy as the others.
Soil pH Indicator Test Kits
	This is a small kit that requires the user to place a soil sample in a small bath of test mix and some water. It is then shaken and it changes color to indicate the pH level. They are only meant for small tasks or to give you an idea of ​​general soil conditions. The main advantage of a pH meter over other pH meters is that the former can be used multiple times and in quick succession. As such, pH meters are ideal for larger jobs in terms of garden size and number of tests.
