Audi LED headlights – environmental innovation

LED headlights significantly reduce fuel consumption. That is why the European Commission has officially certified this solution.

Lighting systems significantly affect the economy of vehicles. For example: conventional halogen low beam more than 135 watts of power is required, while Audi's LED headlights, which are significantly more efficient, consume only about 80 watts. The European Commission has commissioned a study on how much fuel can be saved with Audi's LED headlights. High beam, low beam and license plate lighting were tested. In ten NEDC test cycles of the Audi A6, CO2 emissions were reduced by more than one gram per kilometer. As a result, the European Commission officially recognized LED headlights as an innovative solution to reduce COXNUMX emissions. Audi is the first manufacturer to receive such certification.

LED daytime running lights made their debut in the Audi A8 W12 back in 2004. In 2008, the R8 sports car became the world's first car with full LED headlights. Today, this advanced solution is available in five model series: R8, A8, A6, A7 Sportback and A3.

Audi uses different LED headlights on different models. For example, the A8 uses blocks with 76 LEDs. In the Audi A3, each headlight has 19 LEDs for low and high beams. They are complemented by an all-weather driving and cornering lighting module, as well as LED daytime running light, position light and signal lamp. LED headlights are not only highly efficient, but also provide high safety and comfort. Thanks to a color temperature of 5,5 thousand Kelvin, their light is similar to daylight and therefore hardly strains the driver's eyes. Diodes are maintenance-free and have a lifespan equal to that of a car.
