Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic (TMMCZ) has launched production of the 2021 Car of the Year winner Yaris at its Kolín plant, making TMMCZ the second plant after Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) to produce the most popular Toyota car in Europe.
The launch of the second model is a milestone for Toyota's Czech plant, which comes shortly after its complete takeover by Toyota Motor Europe in January 2021. Toyota has invested more than 180 million euros to implement Toyota New Global Architecture technology at TMMCZ and adapt the plant to produce A and B segment vehicles on the GA-B platform. The plant's production capacity has been expanded and the number of changes increased to three to meet customer demand for the Yaris and prepare for the launch of the Aygo X in 2022.
“Over the past three years, we have built new production facilities, developed new logistics lines, introduced new technologies and, most importantly, increased our staff by 1600 people. I want to express my gratitude to our suppliers and external partners from the region for the excellent cooperation and continued support,” emphasized Koreatsu Aoki, President of TMMCZ.
The new investment introduced hybrid technology for the first time at the TMMCZ plant. The plant will assemble the Yaris Hybrid, which accounts for 80% of Yaris sales in Europe. The electric hybrid drives that go to the Yaris production lines in the Czech Republic and France are manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland (TMMP) plants in Walbrzych and Jelcz Laskowice.
“This is a huge step forward for the TMMKZ plant and its future. Our Czech factory starts production of the most popular Toyota car in Europe. Our goal is to reach annual sales of 2025 million vehicles in Europe by 1,5 years, and Yaris will play a key role in this plan. The introduction of hybrid technology and TNGA at the plant in the Czech Republic is part of our development strategy for the entire region,” said Marvin Cook, vice president of manufacturing, Toyota Motor Europe.
Toyota Yaris Cross. What can he offer?
The new 2022 Yaris Cross is available in Active, Comfort, Executive and Off-road Adventure trims with four powertrain options - a 1.5 petrol engine with a 6-speed manual or CVT, and a 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic Force in front-wheel drive or FWD configuration. All-wheel drive AWD-i. The body color palette includes 9 color options and 12 two-tone combinations with a black, gold or white roof. Almost all 2021 cars are booked.

The base Active is available in petrol with manual transmission or front-wheel drive hybrid. Includes Toyota Touch 2 infotainment system with 7-inch color touchscreen, USB, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and Toyota Connected Car connectivity services. It also includes the full complement of the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense active safety systems, including Cross Collision Avoidance, Collision Assist Steering, Adaptive Cruise Control and eCall Automatic Emergency Alert. Safety is also enhanced by seven standard airbags, including a central airbag between the front seats. In addition, the driver has a 4,2-inch color screen on the instrument panel, power, heated mirrors, manual or automatic air conditioning for the hybrid version, an armrest and LED daytime running lights. Prices for Yaris Cross Active start at PLN 76, while KINTO ONE Leasing installments start at PLN 900 net per month.
The Comfort package is available for all drive variants. Active trim, reversing camera, LED fog lights, rain-sensing smart wipers, 16-inch alloy wheels with 205/65 R16 tires, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Yaris Cross Comfort starts at PLN 80 with a petrol engine and PLN 900 with a hybrid drive.
The Executive version, available only with a hybrid drive, gives the car a more elegant, urban character, which is emphasized by 18-inch 15-spoke light-alloy wheels or brown fabric upholstery with black leather details. The vehicle is equipped with a blind spot monitoring system, as well as a cross-traffic alert system when reversing with an automatic braking function. The car in this version is offered at a price of PLN 113.
