Technical description Opel Movano

Opel Movano is the result of cooperation between GM and Renault. Movano was created due to the high market demand for large vans up to 3500 kg GVW, i.e. those that can be driven with a category B driver's license.

The Movano is the twin of the popular Master, which is probably because many of the components in the two cars are identical. Movano's entry into the market was hampered by the presence on the market of the already proven Master, which many buyers were convinced of and ruled out buying a new untested Movano.

TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT

Quite a successful model, which has firmly entered the segment of delivery vehicles. Most components produced by Master and Renault have been tested, which to some extent guarantees reliability. The materials used for production are of good quality. In 2003, the exterior was improved, the front end and bumpers were changed, the seats were replaced with more comfortable and ergonomic ones. There are many body and engine options to choose from.

TYPICAL FAULTS

Steering system

A mechanically strong element, however, with high mileage, leakage from the power steering system or tight gear operation may occur, which in many cases leads to failure of the power steering pump. The outer ends and rubber covers of gears are often replaced / Photo. one /.

Transmission

Occasionally there are problems with leaks in the area of threaded connections and rubber caps. Bearings may be noisy, problems may occur when shifting gears. Drive joints are replaced quite often due to frequent overloads beyond the maximum load capacity. The covers of the joints are squeezed and torn / Photo. 2/.

Clutch

Apart from normal wear of the pads, no defects are observed. With a significant mileage, jerks are possible when starting off due to knocked-out elements of the clutch disc. Sometimes the clutch actuator causes inconvenience.

ENGINE

The Movano is available with five four-cylinder common-rail turbo-diesel engines with four valves per cylinder for low maintenance. All units comply with the Euro 3 emission standard. New engines 2.5 CDTI/100 km and 3.0 CDTI/136 km (produced since 2004), 1.9 CDTI/82 km, 2.2 CDTI/90 km and 2.5 CDTI/115 km.

All engines are well polished and there are not so many problems with them, sometimes there are oil leaks from the rear oil seal and the oil pan. Often there are leaks in the fuel supply system, especially if cars are operated on low-quality fuel. There may also be problems with the engine control unit and its units (for example, the aforementioned power steering pump).

Hamulce

Careless handling of the brake system can lead to jamming of the elements and wear of the brake discs / Photo. 3/. Front brake caliper parts and front brake caliper guides often seize, otherwise normal wear of mating parts.

Body

For a delivery vehicle, a very well-made body resists corrosion, although often, as in the case of delivery vehicles, there are scuffs from the goods being transported, which can lead to corrosion / Photo 4,5 /. A good solution would be to install plates that protect the metal parts of the car body. As you can see in the photo, corrosion appears in the area of \u6b\uXNUMXbthe joints of the body and in the upper part, near the roof / Photo. XNUMX / marked with arrows.

Electrical installation

Hoses are often stiff and break, reducing system performance. Sometimes it is necessary to replace the charging voltage regulator, often there is a leak that can drain the battery to zero even after a few hours of inactivity. Often a faulty coolant temperature sensor is replaced, the failure of which can cause the radiator fan to continuously operate and the engine to underheat.

Suspension

The suspension, as it should be for a delivery truck, is very armored, the elements are large and heavy / photo 7,8 /. Articulated pins are often replaced / fig. 9 / and stabilizer elements / photo. 10/, the rest of the suspension is good and trouble-free. However, the shock absorber mount may be torn or broken, which is manifested by a knock.

interior

Salon comfortable and spacious, well made. Riding even long distances is not tiring, all controls are at hand, and the indicators are legible and understandable / Photo. 11, 12/. In addition, the cargo space is quite large / Photo. 13 /.

SUMMARY

A well-made car with little damage and a nice appearance / Photo. 14,15 /. It can carry quite large loads. Various body and body versions allow you to choose the version you need. Also, the range of engines is such that everyone will certainly choose something for themselves.
