Tesla recalls 475,000 vehicles in the US

A total of 475,318 vehicles are involved in this Tesla recall. It is not yet known how and when the manufacturer will report and correct all vehicles associated with these defects.

Electric car maker Tesla is removing 475,000 vehicles from US roads because using their trunks could be dangerous.

News site Bloomberg reported that Tesla plans to recall all Model 3 vehicles produced between 2017 and 2020, a total of 356,309 vehicles. They were the ones who were affected by the problems with the camera and rear trunk. Opening and closing the trunk too far can damage the backup camera harness, meaning you won't see the backup camera on the infotainment screen.

Separately, the automaker is also recalling approximately 119,009 2014 Model S vehicles built in. This vehicle has a problem with the front trunk latch that may fail and cause the trunk lid to open unexpectedly while driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Tesla has identified 2,305 warranty claims that could be related to any of the breakdowns, but the automaker is not aware of any related accidents, injuries or deaths.

Tesla said it would resolve both issues free of charge, as all automakers typically do in the event of a recall. Unfortunately, it is not known when they will start and how long it will take to make the necessary repairs.

Most worryingly, Tesla seems to have a history of slow repairs, with some customers waiting months to get into the manufacturer's several repair shops. describes waiting up to six months for repairs at Tesla repair centers, which may be the only stores that will provide service in the event of an insured event.
