Tesla unveils a new version of its cheap Model Y

The rear-wheel drive standard Model Y costs $41,990, $8,000 less than the long-range all-wheel drive version.

Tesla cars have become desirable cars for thousands of people, but their high price poses a problem for the average consumer.

While many people have been waiting for Tesla to launch a more affordable car for all its customers, the wait is over as the leading electric car brand recently introduced a cheaper Model Y.

The presentation of the new standard version of its Model Y was very quiet and almost went unnoticed, as Elon Musk, CEO of Telsa, said last summer that he would not build it. The standard range is capable of driving 244 miles between charges, while the long range can go 326 miles.

No, as range will be unacceptably low (<250 miles EPA)

The Tesla Model Y order page now has two notable updates: pricing and details on a new, more affordable rear-wheel-drive standard-range model, as well as a three-row electric SUV seating option.

: It looks like Tesla is trying to lower the price of the Mach-E to discourage buyers of the shiny new pony. The "standard range" Model Y is the base model and starts at $41,990 with an EPA-estimated range of miles.

That means the standard Y model is $8,000 cheaper than the long-range all-wheel drive Y model and $2,005 cheaper than the base Mach-E model.

Tesla also gives you the option to install seven seats in standard or long models for an additional $3,000.
