Tesla introduces Sentry Mode, an additional mode for vehicle protection. No laser cut, there is HAL 9000 • CARS

Tesla hacks have become a real disaster in the United States. American versions of cars are not equipped with motion sensors in the passenger compartment, which is why thieves break glass with practically impunity and take valuable things from the passenger compartment or trunk. The manufacturer responded with a quick introduction of Sentry Mode or "Sentinel Mode".

As Elon Musk promised a few weeks ago, Sentry Mode was supposed to act as "save the summer" from the popular US dark cartoon "Rick and Morty". Which is more or less similar to the video below (note, the video is funny, but pretty sharp).

Fortunately, there are actually no laser attacks. How does Sentry Mode work? Well, when someone is leaning against the car, it will switch to "Alarm" (alarm, warning) mode and display on the screen that all cameras are recording video. We are, of course, talking about cameras located on the car.

When a more serious threat is detected, such as a broken window, the car activates the "Alarm" mode, which activates the car alarm, increases the display brightness and turns on Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor". maximum volume. In this case, you should notify the Tesla owner of the problem.

It turns out that in Alert mode, the machine displays on the screen the image from the red-eye camera of the ominous HAL 9000 from the movie "A Space Odyssey":

Sentry Mode definitely won't neutralize a thief or even block a really determined person. However, there is a good chance that this will make him wonder if it is worth risking the record and wasting time on a hack that could lead to its owner.
