Test: Audi Q3 2.0 TDI (130 kW) Quattro S-tronic

Audi is trying to differentiate contemporary Audis at a glance with different forms of daytime running lights with LED technology: sedans have a wave, the Q7 has a broken line around the headlights, the Q5 has a bit of ambiguity, Q3, however, dedicated it to the full frame.... Well, the structure is not entirely complete, but we will not be trifling. And since modern Audi is very similar (which I don't like, since even as an automobile expert I have to look at the inscription from the back or measure the length in steps), they tried to separate them at least with something. Wow, bravo Audi, but maybe in the future I won't have to mumble when my friends ask which car with four Olympic laps drove by. But it is written in small print that, unfortunately, they will only separate the best equipment, since daytime running lights made with LED technology are among the accessories.

Although many of my interlocutors promoted the new Q3 along with the BMW X3, closer to the smaller X1... Well, actually, in terms of overall length, it's shorter than the X1, and the trunk space is somewhere in the middle. Therefore, despite the rich equipment of the test car, the passengers are often consciously but firmly after a few minutes of driving: “It's not big at all!” Well, every extra inch is a sign of prestige, kindergartners already know that, and Q3 is not prestigious in this respect. Inside, it is relatively smallso those who usually drive the big limousines of this German automaker will feel at home, but in cramped quarters. At least at first, and especially in the rear seats, in front, no one, except our basketball players in the editorial office (who complained about the panoramic roof, which takes another centimeter of height), did not complain. Audi, too, does not know how to work miracles, and if a newcomer occupies 4,4 meters by 1,8 meters in the parking lot, then there is no need to wait for the kingdom of the A8 inside, nor the A6. Well, a similar minus (which is not at all, since the car is completely smaller) applied to more compact BMWs, so that there would be no misunderstandings. If we were to translate Audi's terminology a bit at home, we would call the Q3 a category of premium compact SUVs.

Having checked the line of engines of this new item, I can only confirm: they really gave only the best, so the price, hmm, let's say, is expected, although at the end of the number many are dizzy. Thirty nine thousand for the base car and more 14 thousand for accessories that's a lot, although it's important to know that he actually had (almost) everything. The technical base is known: the proven TDI, which with 130 kilowatts (177 "horsepower") can also compete with the three-liter TDI in the larger (read: heavier) sedan, the seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch (also known as DSG elsewhere ) and Quattro all-wheel drive (with a Haldex hydraulic clutch located directly in front of the rear differential) are a good base, while the electromechanical steering system and partly aluminum chassis complement the main mechanical components of the vehicle perfectly. ...

The steering wheel appears to be powered by electricity, but Audi says that with this solution we save 0,3 liters of fuel per 100 km of trackThe lighter materials (along with the aluminum hood and tailgate) contribute to the car's weight handling, and the front-to-rear axle ratio is still a bearable 58% to 42. The feel behind the wheel suggests they've hidden nearly 1,6 tonnes.

You can see in the pictures that they were seats upholstered in leatheralthough they forgot about their heating. If you think we are spoiled, you obviously have not yet sat in unheated seats on a winter morning, as if you are sitting in front of your house on a cold stone. The dashboard is transparent, the switches are comfortable, and even the combination of honeycomb gray, beige leather and elegant black creates a premium feel. Workmanship at the highest levelalthough the car is assembled in Spain, which is not quite a model for the automotive industry.

Due to the drag coefficient of 0,32 and a smooth turbodiesel. your ears won't get hurt not even at high speeds, but thanks to the great seats (with a retractable seat section) and the sports steering wheel with lots of switches and a small airbag, you'll often want to drive. The trunk is quite enough, if you turn towards the sea at least once, you can still install the box on standard longitudinal beams.

Among these 14, there are also systems that make driving much easier. Side Parking Assist it works great, so clumsy ladies should definitely think about it. For those who spend a lot of time on the slopes, the so-called Lane assist, which actively turns to keep the lane going. However, we advise everyone to check the speed limit warning, as in the era of speedometers, the purchase price of this system will likely be refunded shortly after every turn. The automatic start-stop release works fine, but unfortunately does not work when the automatic parking brake is on. Namely, the Audi Q3 has the ability to apply the parking brake at every stop, which will be especially pleasant for drivers who are worried about the crawling of a robotic gearbox (well, a car) every time. Unfortunately, the engine does not stop because the brake pedal still has to be depressed. Very sorry. The ESP stabilization system has been improved, you can count on assistance when starting off on a slope, and the slow descent assistance system will be on the market later. In such a car, there should be no lack of a transparent MMI interface with good navigation.

So the Audi Q3 did not disappoint in any wayas a good foundation is replenished with the latest electronic gadgets. However, I cannot imagine myself without additional daytime running lights and driver assistance. It costs. Well, the only drawbacks might be the price and the fact that the money of the world is the ruler, which history has taught for a very long time.

I confess I expected to be cramped in the third quarter than, say, in the fifth, but it quickly became clear that the difference in the rear seats is obvious, and in the front you are unlikely to find that you fall into the number of a smaller Q. And although it is expected, that the TDI would be economical, I (except for those who work hard, of course) would prefer to have turbocharged gasoline under the hood - it is much more powerful and also more than a thousandth cheaper. TFSI should be.

Overall rating (362/420)

  • Audi Q3 literally caught up with the top five, which is not even strange. If we neglect the almost too homely body shape, we can only blame him for a few things, but praise a lot. For example, the engine, transmission, four-wheel drive, active safety systems, semi-automatic parking (Q3 turns the steering wheel, and you control the pedals and the gear lever), etc. Are you saying that it is too expensive? But bread, houses, insurance, vaccines, books (and we could go on and on) not today?

  • Exterior (14/15)

Harmonious and beautiful, without daytime running lights of its own, perhaps too similar to the larger Qs.

  • Interior (107/140)

Big enough in the front and trunk, a little less pampering in the rear seats. Excellent inventory, transparent counters, quality materials.

  • Engine, transmission (60

    / 40)

Irregular engine and fast gearbox, suitable comfortable chassis, electricity on the steering wheel does not interfere.

  • Driving performance (62

    / 95)

Safe position, good full braking feel, only cold (or hot) aluminum gets in the way of the gear lever.

  • Performance (35/35)

At full acceleration, we easily kept up with the sedan with the three-liter TDI.

  • Security (42/45)

Five stars on Euro NCAP, many (optional) active safety systems.

  • Economy (44/50)

Average warranty, comparable price and fuel consumption to competitors.
