Test: Ford Edge Vignale 2,0 TDCI 154 kW Powershift AWD

The impression remains with the slightly richer version with the Vignale label. The list of hardware already built into Edge has a lot of goodies, but not so much that you can't add to it, which is well worth it. Surprisingly, the list of surcharges also includes a number of safety aides, as well as useful items such as a headlight washer system or electrically adjustable steering wheel, and heated and cooled front (leather) seats.

However, discussing what is already included in the price and what is available for an additional fee will not change the fact that the Edge is a surprisingly good vehicle. In terms of interior design, the Edge already boasts ample size. touch screen... Most of the control functions are performed through this screen (and via a series of buttons on the steering wheel spokes). Good communication with the smartphone is provided by the Ford system. sync3... The Edge already has the familiar dashboard components and basic “components” of the driver environment from other Fords, but we only drive with one anyway, and in fact this “non-ingenuity” doesn't bother me at all, because the ergonomics are relevant there as well.

The European version of this American hit Ford includes only a two-liter turbodiesel. In version with 210 'horses' we already know this from some other big Fords, as I can say about the Powershift transmission. Six-speed dual-clutch transmission Ford has adapted it to work the American way, like a classic automatic transmission, and it is difficult for the driver to understand that it is actually a dual-clutch transmission, which makes some versions of other manufacturers start quite quickly. Ford engineers have done a good job here and the Edge is no problem even with slow parking or similar maneuvers. The summer AWD test can usually only be done on a rainy day. It was not there during our test, but the experience on slippery Dalmatian roads still shows that it makes an important contribution to cornering stability.

It is also worth noting that the driving comfort is surprisingly high. Of course, this contributes to this very effectively, although on more ribbed roads there is sometimes a little stiff suspension and some very comfortable seats as well. The leathers in Vignale can be blamed for the extra edge (compared to classic fabrics) on the part of the seat that is not in the right place and sometimes presses on the muscles of the thighs, but on warm days it turns out to be very cool. The spaciousness of the cabin also makes a good impression, as the Edge also showcases its size in the interior. This will be especially appreciated by those who want to take more luggage with them. The trunk is also suitable for five-seat use, by removing the roller blind (which is invisible, but not convincing when it is jammed), we can use it for the inner edge of the roof and thus enlarge it significantly.

Can you say that the price is adequate considering the built-in equipment, when the car costs very little? 64 thousand euros? The potential Edge client will have to answer this. It is true, however, that Ford offers a lot with the Edge, more than some otherwise rare competitors from traditional car brands.

final grade

Is the Ford brand a suitable guarantee of prestige? Someone might say no, but their largest SUV proves the Edge is not far behind this type of SUV.
