Test: Ford Focus 1.6 EcoBoost (110 kW) Titanium

The downside of the 1,6L turbodiesel was lower responsiveness at lower RPMs, which you won't experience with a 1,6kW 110L turbodiesel as it pulls well out of the basement and gets you to the top faster than you can. allowed.

But you don't have to show your muscles just in a rage, as you can use the torque both when passing Sunday drivers, and when greeting annoying drivers behind you whose safe distance is a Spanish village, or just enjoying full acceleration to the speed limit on the highway. . After the toll booth, you will always be in new company, as few people can (or want to) go on new adventures so quickly. All in petrol refinement and effortless.

But in this fairy tale there is a villain - fuel consumption. Of course, we shouldn't be content with an average fuel consumption of 9,6 liters, as Ford probably doesn't have that either, or 10 liters, which can be easily achieved with a slightly more dynamic ride. This is where the 7,1-litre average power consumption turbodiesel has the edge, and trust me, with the kind of traffic density we've seen in recent years, you won't be any slower.

But lower rpm torque and quiet operation are the trump cards that would convince even my toddler to buy a gas brother. And the Fiesta WRC has almost the same engine, which few people know about. Damn Ford marketing?

The six-speed manual transmission has already been praised for its quick and smooth operation, making it very comfortable for the driver. We were also pleased with the precise steering mechanism, which responded to the driver's commands with surgical precision, and the chassis, which represented a true compromise between comfort and sportiness. The quality of workmanship is at an enviable level, if you do not take into account the bizarre operation of the rear parking sensors, which detected an obstacle even when there was nothing behind the car. What am I hearing that the dirt on the sensors is to blame? Hmmm, not even because we cleaned them by hand.

Of course, we cannot ignore systems such as blind spot warning, active cruise control, (semi) automatic parking, short stop shutdown, heated windshield, traffic sign recognition and additional warning, start assist, warning unintentional driving change. pass, etc. All the systems mentioned are candy, which is a balm for the soul of technophiles, but not necessarily necessary to define a good car.

We would keep this a secret if we stated that we do not like their use, although we need to maintain a distance, a healthy attitude towards these systems. I totally wowed many with side parking, in which we leave driving to the discretion of the car, but more experienced drivers could park it in a smaller pit.

Active cruise control adjusts the speed and distance to the vehicle in front, although the safety distance must be kept to a minimum, otherwise everyone "jumps" in front of the vehicle and you go more and more backward and slower. And left turns, when the overtaken car is in the right lane, is often confusing. Even the vibration of the steering wheel in case of an unintentional lane change (at home without a direction indicator) would be peacefully missed.

On long journeys, we prefer to stop for a long coffee, we will be safer drivers. We recommend everything else.

The only big advantage of the station wagon version is the 476-litre boot, as the five-door engine has a below-average opening of 316 litres. That's why the van doesn't have those sexy taillights...

Overall rating (343/420)

  • Although it scored slightly less points than its turbo diesel sibling, this is solely due to lower load, higher fuel consumption and a more pronounced loss of value. In terms of performance, it is far ahead of the equally large turbodiesel, so we can't wait to wait for the 2.0 TDCI van (with 163 "horsepower"), not to mention the RS.

  • Exterior (13/15)

Interestingly designed, especially the shape of the rear lights.

  • Interior (100/140)

Spacious enough for family pressure (if you don't take into account the dimensions of the trunk below average), a lot of equipment.

  • Engine, transmission (57

    / 40)

Mechanics and related electronics are by far the best parts of a car.

  • Driving performance (62

    / 95)

Excellent road holding, good braking feel, quite stable even on wheels.

  • Performance (28/35)

Sufficient for demanding drivers and a bit too much for regular drivers.

  • Security (41/45)

There really was a lot of serial (and additional) equipment.

  • Economy (42/50)

Slightly higher fuel consumption and average warranty.
