According to some European car brands, Honda launched its first car relatively late. Well, it wasn't a car yet, because in 1963 the T360 was introduced to the world, a kind of pickup truck or semi-trailer. However, to date (more precisely, last year), 100 million vehicles have been sold worldwide, which is certainly not a negligible number. However, for most of history, Honda's car has undoubtedly been the Civic. It first hit the road in 1973 and has been changed nine times to date, so now we're writing about the tenth generation. Currently, almost a third of all Honda activities (development, design, sales strategy) are focused on the Civic family, which speaks volumes about how important this car is to the brand.

As for the Civic, you can write that its shape has changed slightly over the decades. Mostly clear for the best, but in the meantime, for the worse, which also led to fluctuations in sales. Moreover, with its most sporty version of the Type R, it has excited the minds of many young people, who, however, also brought something into shape. And this at the beginning of the millennium was really unlucky.

Now the Japanese are back to their roots again. Maybe even for someone too much, because the whole design is first of all sporty, only then elegant. Therefore, the appearance repulses many, but not less, if not more pleasant and acceptable to people. Here I cannot but admit that I unconditionally fall into the second group.

The Japanese approached the new Civic in an interesting but thoughtful way. Hotels are first and foremost a dynamic vehicle with aggressive and sharp lines, which must also be suitable for everyday use. Thus, unlike some of its predecessors, the novelty is quite transparent, and at the same time pleasantly spacious inside.

Much attention in the development of cars was given to driving performance, vehicle behavior and road grip. This is one of the reasons why everything has changed - from the platform, suspension, steering and, last but not least, engines and transmission.

The test Civic was equipped with sports equipment, which, respectively, includes a 1,5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. With 182 "horses" it is a guarantee of a dynamic and fast ride, although it does not protect itself even in a calm and comfortable state. The Civic is still a car that can shift into sixth gear at 60 kilometers per hour, but the engine won't complain about it. On the contrary, it will be rewarded with pleasingly low fuel consumption, as will the test Civic, which needed just 100 liters of unleaded petrol for 4,8 kilometers on a standard lap. Despite a relatively dynamic and sporty ride, the average test consumption was 7,4 liters per 100 kilometers, which is more than good for a turbocharged gasoline engine. When we're talking about driving, we definitely can't overlook the powertrain - it's been above average for decades and the same in the latest generation Civic. Accurate, with smooth and easy gear changes, it can become a model for many more prestigious cars. So driving can be really fast thanks to a good and responsive engine, a solid chassis and a precise transmission.

But for those drivers for whom speed is not everything, this is also taken care of inside. Perhaps even more so, as the interior is definitely not that exciting. Big and clear (digital) gauges, a multifunction steering wheel (with a fairly logical key layout) and, last but not least, a nice center console with a large and easily operated touchscreen are given out.

Thanks to the Sport equipment, the Civic is already a well-equipped vehicle as standard. From a safety point of view, in addition to the airbags, there are also separate (front, rear) side curtains, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist and pull away assistance. New is the Honda Sensing safety system, which includes collision mitigation brakes, pre-collision warning with a vehicle in front, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition. system. But that's not all. Also standard is an alarm with an electronic engine immobilizer, a dual exhaust pipe, sports side skirts and bumpers, additional tinted rear windows, LED headlights, leather accessories inside, including sports aluminum pedals. Inside, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, front and rear parking sensors including a rearview camera, and heated front seats are also standard. And that is not all! Hidden behind the seven-inch screen is a powerful radio that can also play digital programs (DAB), and when connected to the Internet via a smartphone, it can also play online radio, and at the same time, it is possible to browse the World Wide Web. Smartphones can be connected via Bluetooth, Garmin navigation is also available to the driver.

And why do I mention all this, otherwise the standard equipment? Because after a long time, the car really surprised me with the selling price. It is true that the representative of Slovenia is currently offering a special discount of two thousand euros, but still - for all of the above (and, of course, for many more that we have not listed) 20.990 182 euros is enough! In short, for a perfectly equipped car, for a new superb 20 "horsepower" turbocharged petrol engine, providing above-average dynamics, but on the other hand also economical, quite good XNUMX thousand euros.

It doesn't matter if your neighbor laughs at you for your uniform and stinks, bid him the car under his mustache and immediately start listing that everything is standard. I guarantee that the smile will disappear from your face very quickly. However, it is true that jealousy will increase. Especially if you have a Slovenian neighbor!

Overall rating (346/420)

  • Without a doubt, the tenth generation Civic has lived up to expectations, at least for now. But time will tell if it will satisfy the sellers too.

  • Exterior (13/15)

The new Civic is sure to catch your eye. Both positive and negative.

  • Interior (109/140)

The interior is definitely less impressive than the exterior, and on top of that, it is very well equipped as standard.

  • Engine, transmission (58

    / 40)

The new 1,5-liter turbocharged petrol engine is impressive and can only be blamed for lazy acceleration. But together with the chassis and drivetrain, it makes a great package.

  • Driving performance (64

    / 95)

The Civic is not afraid of fast driving, but it also impresses with its calmness and low gas mileage.

  • Performance (26/35)

Unlike most similar engines, it is not above average greedy when driving dynamically.

  • Security (28/45)

Unambiguously at height after stocking with standard equipment.

  • Economy (48/50)

Given the reputation of Japanese cars, excellent standard equipment and a powerful engine, buying a new Civic is definitely a good move.
