Short test: Renault Kangoo dCi 90 Style

This is how my acquaintance answered, who until now believed that cars meant nothing to her. So, the lesson: even someone who is not interested in cars at all needs them and even notices them. For Kangoo, this is actually quite understandable. Ultimately, it was this rounded box on four wheels that pioneered a new class of car and became the subject of different selection criteria than conventional cars.

The appearance of the Kangoo is distinctive, but we can't talk about much effort in the case design. The designers had the task only to prepare a friendly face (mask and light), but, of course, the interior is more important, and here variations on the theme begin. Our Kangoo is the one with stylish equipment, which is also the richest equipment in Kangoo.

Together with the mid-range 1,5-liter turbodiesel, these two items bring a significant jump in price over the base version (€ 5.050), and at the final price of the Kangoo being tested, I was a little nervous as it was € 21.410. ...

For good money then a good car? So like! At Kangoo, you get quite a lot of equipment for the money, although some of the accessories price list seems a bit shocking: is it still possible for ESP car brands to be “packaged” in accessories and Renault cost as much as 840 euros? The same goes for side airbags and curtains for an additional 600 euros. Both seem absolutely essential to Kanggu, and he doesn't skimp on safety. Kangoo also had a skylight, but, unfortunately, it did not allow you to hide from the scorching sun with a curtain.

Of course, the seats are more “cargoy”, but this is what is considered a commendable feature in this type of car. In particular, the rear bench folds down very comfortably and is suitable for multiple "exercises" when we need more cargo space in the rear of the Kangoo. Rear sliding doors or a mechanism that allows you to open and close are less convincing - they didn't work best with the youngest and oldest. However, Canggu is considered the most suitable for family use.

In general, he showed good driving characteristics. The 1,5-liter mid-range turbocharged diesel is just right to give the Kangoo enough breath when loaded with its maximum permissible weight (over 600 kg is commendable!). At first it seems that we are missing the sixth gear in the gearbox, but later we find that this is not a problem either. The gear lever is comfortable, but not always gear shifting is as accurate as possible. The chassis provides a relatively comfortable ride and for racing we need to think of a different Renault.

Finally, on the price (applies to many of the vehicles we test): a short jump to Renault's official website showed a lower price for the base model than our technical data sheet. Then something else depends on your negotiation skills, and for a Kangoo like this, in the end, it's worth it.
