Short test: Renault Scenic dCi 110 EDC Bose Edition

We have already processed the scene in the longitudinal and transverse directions. We still maintain that this is a proven and improved vehicle designed primarily for families. It can be seen that it was built from the inside, since all the sweets are hidden inside. That's why the shape doesn't stand out, in all honesty - the 17-inch wheels included with the Bose Edition are even more pronounced in the tested version.

The specified equipment is at the top of the price list. For those familiar with the Bose brand, it is clear that this car is equipped with a state-of-the-art audio system. However, since that's not enough to name the entire package after the Bose brand, the Scenica has also been fitted with leather on the seats, steering wheel and gear lever. However, do not overlook the many logos around the car.

There is one more thing on the accessories list that should be checked first. We always emphasize that Renault has the best designed and finished smart cards for unlocking and locking or getting in and out of the car. It is surprising that none of the other manufacturers are trying to copy this innovation. The system is so simple and complex that if you only wore one pair of pants, you would forget what a Renault key is. The method of refueling also deserves praise: no plugs, locks and unlocking - we open the door, and hop, we are already refueling.

Let's move on to what's even more interesting in this tested version. EDC, short for Efficient Dual Clutch, stands for Robotic Dual Clutch Transmission. Dual clutch transmissions are not new to the market, but they have become a hit. Everyone was waiting for the VAG concern to send the first copies to the market, and some even shook their heads. But the business stuck, and now everyone puts such gearboxes in their models on the conveyor. Renault opted for a dry-clutch twin-disc clutch. This clutch transmits slightly less torque, so it also only works (for now) in conjunction with a 110 horsepower turbodiesel. An engine like this is good enough for day-to-day use, but unfortunately annoying. What kilowatt of extra power could improve this whole kit so well ...

Let's go back to the gearbox. Parking maneuvering and slow driving are a serious flaw in some dual-clutch transmissions, and the EDC runs smoothly with no knocking and even accelerates smoothly and accurately. The gearbox also allows for manual shifting, but we do not attach much importance to this feature in such a machine. If it had levers on the steering wheel, they could still work, so the easiest and most enjoyable thing is to switch to D and let the gearbox do its best.

So far, everything, one might say, is smooth. What about the calculation? Let's put it this way: EDC is undoubtedly the right choice. Not to mention the specs, this is a gearbox that keeps up with the times and someday when the car is sold used it will just be a positive thing. Unfortunately, Renault is asking for a good thousand for this, but it is still worth considering. At AM we say it would be easier to survive with the cloth under the ass and with a conventional sound system, and to that we add a dual-clutch gearbox. And don't forget the smart card.

  • If your finger settles on EDC when making a purchasing decision, it's worth considering carefully. We recommend this. The only pity is that it cannot be obtained in combination with a more powerful engine.
