Test Short: Renault Twingo 1.2 16V Dynamique LEV

Renault Twingo, the seventh wonder, appeared in the automotive world in April 1993. He was so unique in his form that many predicted a quick and infamous goodbye for him. But Renault's risk with a completely different shape paid off - by June 2007, when the first generation Twingo was discontinued, nearly 2,5 million customers opted for it. There are certainly many more owners now, as the first generation Twingo was made in Uruguay until 2008 and is still made in Colombia.

The second generation Twingo made its debut at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show with a much more "decent" and last-minute design redesign. Sales began shortly thereafter, but were not as successful. This was partly due to the economic crisis, and partly to the fact that Twingo, with its decent form, was lost in the crowd of similar competitors. However, he used to be lonely and unique.

The only positive thing about the new Twingo was, of course, the decision to make it in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. With him, the region took a break, jobs remained.

Therefore, the renovation was followed logically and very quickly. This was announced back in July, just three years after the start of production of the second generation Twingo, and it took place at the autumn Frankfurt Motor Show. This did not bring cardinal changes, but gave the car at least some youthful playfulness. Twingo was also the first to showcase Renault's new logo.

The latest generation Twingo is what it is now. At least partially corrected the ill-fated image, and the new Renault body colors can also be considered a big plus. Well, or go back to the first generation again and offer bright pastel colors. In the last year or two, white has reigned supreme along with classic black and silver, and pastels have been very rare. Twingo is playing live right now, and like the test, people are loving it.

Twing's tests were also impressed by the electrically adjustable awning, which otherwise requires an additional over 1.000 euros, with optional ESP and side curtain (590 euros), automatic air conditioning (340 euros), special wheels (190 euros), black with body accessories (50 Euros) and a surcharge for a "special" one-coat paint (160 Euros), a Twingo equipped in this way quickly becomes a rather expensive car. Especially considering that it had a 1,2-liter gasoline engine under the hood, which cannot be called the most inflatable (75 "horsepower"), especially when there are more passengers in the car.

But this is another topic that Renault solves with constant discounts, but since they are, they always pay attention to the "regular" price first. Unfortunately, there is much to be learned from this!

  • Price aside, the Renault Twingo can be an interesting toy, but unfortunately the base engine will appeal to undemanding drivers or the fairer sex. But don't take this as an understatement.
