Short test: Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TDI BlueMotion Technology

No. By eye it is already possible (this is called a corporate image), but not quite. Touareg is Touareg, Tiguan, then Tiguan. Therefore, the first is more prestigious, the second is more popular.

In terms of design, the Tiguan has become much more mature, especially the changes in the nose (headlights, mask, LED daytime running lights) made it a little more decisive.

Of course, the Tiguan is much smaller than its big brother, and it's nowhere more noticeable than in its trunk. He's not the only one in this class who suffers from this 'disease', in fact we can safely say that it's what most people are like. What is it about? Just so that the trunk really was - too small.

For everyday use, of course, that's enough. Every inch is important to maneuverability in the city, and less luggage space here means fewer inches behind. But when it comes to a little more luggage, it turns out that the longitudinal inches in the Tiguan's trunk run out too quickly.

This is why many mid-range minivans have gotten a little longer (usually only with rear overhang), say the Grand version. An urban SUV also has one, and in fact the Grand Tiguan would be just the right size. There is no third row of seats, just a few inches longitudinally at the trunk.

The rest of the car does not need such drastic changes. There is already enough space in the rear seats (including due to the fact that, due to the “off-road” shape of the body, the seats are slightly higher), and the front ones will not have to complain to anyone.

The ergonomics are excellent (including the ability to touch the sensitive center LCD screen), the driving position is good (also because the test Tiguan was equipped with a seven-speed DSG gearbox and therefore did not have a clutch pedal, which has, as the adage goes, , long driving at Volkswagen), the air conditioner works (even in 35-degree heat), and a disadvantage (not only comfort, but also safety), we considered the lack of Bluetooth for hands-free calls. Nowadays, a brand like Volkswagen shouldn't afford it.

Thus, the driver will be impressed by the automatic parking system. Using standard parking sensors (only if there are more of them on every corner than if you chose only passive assistance), it finds a parking spot and then puts the car into a parking space by quickly turning the steering wheel and decisively (using the electric power steering). Would definitely recommend.

We also recommend opting for the dual-clutch seven-speed DSG gearbox. Your left leg will be able to rest, gear changes will be quick, smooth and unobtrusive, and fuel consumption is likely to be lower than using a manual transmission. In addition, the seven gears mean that those 103 kilowatts or 140 "horsepower" of the classic, already well-known and tested XNUMX-liter Tedei (in the Tiguan it is also quite smooth and quiet) will be used to the end. Then you may "feel" that the Tiguan is not motorized enough, but you will always be among the fastest.

And this is even though the consumption easily remains below eight liters (for economical ones - about the seventh), also in the city, also due to the BlueMotion technology label, which in practice means automatically turning off and starting the engine when the Tiguan is turned on stops.

The Tiguan is clearly not a scaled-down Touareg. It would be great if I had a bigger trunk. But even without this, this is an excellent representative of its class of cars, which (again: except for the trunk, for those who are sensitive to it) there are almost no flaws. Like Volkswagen, right?

evaluation

  • The Tiguan is not a true SUV, so off-road is no fun - and not on pavement, because it is too "off-road". But because it rides comfortably, quietly, and reasonably smoothly, it still deserves a sweet spot.
