Test Brief: Renault Mégane Grandcoupe Intens Energy dCi 130

Of course, the Grandcoupe is just one of three body styles for Renault's once very successful mid-range model. But that's exactly what was missing from the previous generation Mégane when the limousine was renamed the Fluence. It's a good thing they don't use that name anymore, as the designers managed to create a nice shape instead of just making the trunk bigger and the rear longer. The Grandcoupe badge also reflects the high expectations of Renault's marketers. In any case, the design should be praised, and it will depend on the taste of the customer whether he needs a voluminous body.

The Grandcoupe has a large trunk in the back in which we store our luggage through a relatively small opening. With the hardware that was in our test unit, the boot lid can also be opened with a foot movement, but here we did not find a rule for when and why the sensor detected our desire after only a few tries. It may be embarrassing for someone because of the ridiculous kicks in the back, but he does not say anything, the lid opens, and the owner, with his hands completely closed, still successfully puts the load.

The Mégane Grandcoupe is not the only model with this accessory. However, if we are already familiar with some other versions of the Mégane, we won't have to get too used to its other hardware. There's always plenty of room for the front passenger and front passenger, a little less in the back if those in front use the rear seat movement too much. Otherwise, the spaciousness is fully consistent with the classy style. The seating comfort is also solid.

It is already known from reports from other versions that users, members of the editorial board of Auto magazine, are not too enthusiastic about the presence of menus in the infotainment system, especially with regard to the R-Link. However, I would praise the number of connectors for various external devices and a suitable storage space for the phone.

However, much praise should be said about motorization. The turbodiesel engine is quite powerful and performs well on German highways, especially when you combine performance with fuel economy - despite high cruising speeds, it was 6,2 liters in the entire test. When driving on the highway, active cruise control also shows itself with a quick response.

So Grandcoupe makes sense, especially if we choose the right motorization and equipment, and the first customer reviews here are also good, customer responses are greater than with the almost forgotten Fluence.

  • While the Grandcoupe offers a sedan design that Slovenian buyers do not demand en masse, such a Mégane seems like a good choice. Especially with the most powerful turbo diesel engine
