Test: Lancia Ypsilon 5V 1.3 Multijet 16V Platinum

(Again) we were right. With the turbodiesel, we drastically reduced consumption (5,3 liters instead of 7,8), experienced more pleasant noise (the same noise is not exactly an honor for a gasoline engine, right?) And more modest vibrations and got better performance. The turbodiesel 1,3-litre Multijet impresses with its torque despite only five gears, as the turbocharger breathes full lung from 1.750 rpm and doesn't stop at 5.000 rpm. Therefore, on the track, we did not miss the sixth gear.

It should be noted that despite the latest technology, the Multijet is still a turbodiesel, so it can be heard and felt at launch. This was even more alarming when restarting after short stops, when the Start & Stop system revives the engine, because then the car shakes a little. But you quickly get used to it when you go to the gas station and find that the average fuel consumption was only 5,3 liters. The trip computer even showed us numbers in the 4,7 to 5,3 liters range, which should be treated with caution, but we can still confirm that this is a real economy. Speaking of refueling, be careful when refilling as we got wet a few times for the first time. If you are too impatient to top up to the last free corner, gas oil loves to splash past the gun. Grrr ...

Considering that we have already praised the exterior of the Upsilonka and criticized the rough shape of the interior, a few more words about the merits and demerits of the test car. The Platinum package contains a lot of equipment, we were pampered with the semi-automatic parking function, the Blue & me system, the panoramic sunroof, the City program for the power steering ...

But there were a few other things that bothered us. We missed heating or cooling in the seats (believe me, it's better not to tick the skin without it), and the parking sensors are triggered when you wait for a green light when the gearbox is idling. Then every passing pedestrian triggers this annoying beep. For the exterior, which at least men like more now, we criticized the installation of the front license plate (in case of contact with the curb or the first snow, you immediately lose it) and the installation of hooks on the rear doors, as they are difficult for small children.

Despite some drawbacks, it can be said that the Lancia Ypsilon turbodiesel is undoubtedly the right choice if you like this car.

  • The Lancia Ypsilon turbo diesel appeared in a much better light than the gasoline one. So diesel!
