Test: Mazda3 Sport 1.6i TX

Wondering why a person should buy a car with a base engine in the nose and the richest equipment? In your own way, you're right. If we look at Mazda, then for such a triple as the test one has to deduct 18.790 XNUMX euros.

For similar money, you can also think of a triplet with a diesel engine in the bow, for which you deduct € 600 less if you are satisfied with the basic equipment package (CE), or € 300 more (€ 19.090) if the average (TE ) quite enough.

And the truth is, you'll drive more economically, cheaper, and when it comes to torque management, even more comfortable. It is impossible not to notice the difference of almost 100 Nm in torque (145 Nm: 240 Nm), which the petrol engine achieves at 4.000 rpm, and the diesel at 1.750 rpm. (77 cm?: 80 cm?) Very similar.

These are the numbers on paper, but in practice, it has been shown that even a simple motorcycle that drinks greens can sovereignly cope with the daily needs of movement. Thanks to the technology built into his intestines, working in the lower work area does not bother him at all. Moreover, it seems to be even better there, although the numbers suggest otherwise.

So if you are a more relaxed type of driver, the idea of buying such a triple is not all that wrong. Especially if you look at the price list and find that the difference between comparable gasoline and diesel engines is around two thousand euros. It's not that little, is it?

First of all, you can spend this money on other amenities. For example, the one offered by TX equipment that your neighbors will surely envy on snowy days like January this year.

Well, there are a few things to be admitted, though; even if you go for the most basic package (CE), there is a lot you won't miss in Troika. It also includes air conditioning, audio system, all necessary safety accessories (including DSC) and a host of other things as standard.

For a true winter getaway, however, you'll need to climb higher, ditch the TE equipment, and cut through the TX. Here heated front seats and heated windshield provide a pleasant start to polar mornings, a rain and cruise control sensor for a pleasant journey to the finish line, a safe parking sensor in the rear, and 17-inch wheels for better visibility.

The Test Troika was also equipped with metal paint, an alarm system and a Bluetooth hands-free device, bringing its price to just under 20k (€ 19.649).

A device that provides a safe telephone connection while driving is convenient and affordable (€ 299), but it has one drawback: the voice of the one on the other side of the line is (too) quiet, which is especially important due to the loud engine on high revs interferes with high revs.

But as we mentioned earlier: if you belong to the right circle of buyers for this Mazda, real ones with a slightly lighter foot, then you may not even notice it.

evaluation

  • Chances are you won't find many troxes on the road with the most basic engine in the nose and the richest set of equipment inside (okay, there's also the richer TX Plus). Not only because the trend in our country is focused on diesel engines. But if you're still thinking about buying a Mazda, it might not be out of place to think again about where to invest another 2.000 euros - in the engine or in comfort.
