Test: Volvo V60 T6 AWD lettering // Latest news

Thus, the V60 is currently the last Volvo on this platform to hit the road. When we tested the V90 (then with a diesel engine in the nose), Sebastian wrote that all he wanted was a perfect cylinder. With the transition to the new platform, Volvo decided to install only four-cylinder engines in its cars. The most powerful ones are supported by the plug-in hybrid system, while others are not. And this T6 is the last step under them. But: while in a V90 (especially with a diesel engine) the sound of a four-cylinder engine is still a concern, with the smooth but above all powerful petrol T6, those issues are no longer there. Yes, it's a great engine, more than powerful and smooth enough for a car of this class (and price) Volvo V60.

Of course, 7,8 liters on a standard lap isn't one of the lowest we've recorded, but when you consider it's a big, rugged, and therefore not the lightest family caravan with 310 horsepower (228 kilowatts). with a turbocharged nose that accelerates to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5,8 seconds and in all conditions, and even at German highway speeds, sovereignly powerful and lively, while boasting like an automatic transmission (which in this class is self-evident ), and four-wheel drive, then such an expense is not too large and not surprising. If you want less with these features, you'll have to wait for the hybrid versions of the plugins to arrive. The smaller T6 Twin Engine will have a system output of 340 horsepower, while the more powerful T8 Twin Engine will have a system output of 390 horsepower. he traveled about 10,4 kilometers (65 according to official figures), and acceleration will drop to 6 seconds.

But let's leave the upcoming plug-in hybrid aside for the end of the year and focus on the rest of the turbocharged test V60.

So the engine is up to the level you'd expect from a car like this, and the same can be said for the gearbox. The eight-speed automatic transmission runs smoothly and continuously, you might just want a little more responsiveness here and there. And the four-wheel drive? In fact, it is well hidden. Until it becomes really slippery under the wheels, the driver does not even know that he is in the car, and only then (for example, when starting off on slippery asphalt, preferably when turning) the driver will expect the ESP control indicator to light up, who tamed the drive wheels, which are trying to shift to neutral under the onslaught of 400 Newton meters, notices (or not) that nothing of the kind is happening. The V60 just goes. Decisively, but without drama.

Of course, when it slips heavily while driving, such as on a snowy winding road to a ski resort, the four-wheel drive becomes even more noticeable. At Volvo this is indicated by the AWD badge, the main part of which is the Haldex electronically controlled multi-plate clutch of the latest generation. It's fast enough for predictable reactions, and it can transfer enough torque to the rear wheels, so driving in these conditions can be fun as well. In short: in terms of drive technology, this V60 deserves a plus.

Of course, the V60, which, as we already wrote, was built on the same SPA platform as the S, V and XC90, also has the same modern assistance systems. New is the improved operation of the Pilot Assist system, i.e. a system that takes care of semi-autonomous driving. The changes are software-only, and the new version follows the middle of the lane better and is less twisty, especially on slightly tighter highway bends. Of course, the system still requires the driver to hold the steering wheel, but now it needs to “fix” less, otherwise the feeling will be more natural and the car will drive like most drivers would. In a column, it easily follows the road and the traffic between them, while the driver does not need to put much effort into this - only about every 10 seconds you need to grab the steering wheel. The system is a little confusing only for the lines on city streets, as it likes to stick to the left lane and therefore can unnecessarily race through the left turn lanes. But it's really meant to be used in traffic on the open road, and it works great there.

Of course, the list of safety systems does not end there: there is an automatic braking function in the event of a frontal collision (for example, if an oncoming vehicle turns in front of the V60, the system detects this and starts automatic emergency braking), and, of course, automatic braking in the city ( recognition of pedestrians, cyclists and even some animals), which also works in the dark, and the same system for suburban driving, a system that does not allow anyone to turn left when turning. (also detects cyclists and motorcyclists.) Take advantage ... The list is long and (since the test V60 had lettering equipment) complete.

Fully digital gauges offer accurate and clearly readable information, and the infotainment system, which has been around for many years, remains the same as its larger siblings, but still belongs to the very top of such systems in cars, as with in terms of connectivity, and in terms of ease. and logic. uses (but here some competitors have taken another half step). You don't even have to touch the screen to scroll through menus (left, right, up, and down), which means you can help yourself with anything, even with warm, gloved fingers. At the same time, portrait placement has proven to be a good idea in practice - it can display larger menus (several lines), a larger navigation map, while some virtual buttons are larger and easier to press without taking your eyes off the screen. Road. Almost all systems in the car can be controlled using the display.

Writing equipment does not mean fully stocked equipment, so the test V60 had a good eight thousand additional equipment prices at 60 thousand (according to the price list). The Winter Pro package includes an additional cab heater (you might not have noticed), heated rear seats (possibly), and a heated steering wheel (which is very difficult to pass up if you try it on cold days). Even for a semi-automatic movement at speeds up to 130 km / h (Intellisafe PRO package) you will have to pay extra (a little less than two thousand), but we highly recommend it, as well as a "small" winter package, which includes front heating. seats and windshield washers. Instead of a package with a navigation device (two thousand) for Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto, a surcharge of 400 euros will be enough, and even very expensive packages Xenium Pro and Versatility Pro, which also bring with them a projection screen (it is better to pay separately) and an electric tailgate opening (even it is better to pay extra for this separately). We recommend luxury seats for three thousand, they are really comfortable. In short: from 68 thousand, the price could be reduced without cancellation to 65 thousand (with surcharges already included for an electronically controlled adjustable chassis, a parking system with a camera that shows the entire car environment and a four-zone climate). Yes, the price can be reasonably affordable with a smart tick of the options.

Of course, there's not as much room in the cabin as the larger V90 and XC90, and because it's lower and less SUV-like, it's also slightly smaller than the XC60 - but not enough to make usability more comfortable. very limited in comparison. The trunk is also (despite all-wheel drive) family-friendly, so the V60 can easily live the life of a pure-grown family car, even as the kids get older. The interior is also notable in terms of design, which we are already (not) used to in modern Volvos. The center console stands out, almost completely stripped of the physical buttons (but the audio system's volume control remains commendable) and with the already mentioned infotainment system's large vertical screen, gear lever and rotary buttons for launching and selecting drive mode. .

So the interior feel of such a smaller V60 sibling is great - it's one of those cars that lets the driver or owner know he's getting a lot for his money (perhaps even more than the bigger siblings). And that also falls into the category of driving pleasure, right?

Overall rating (476/600)

  • The V60 is a great XC60 competitor for those who still believe in classic station wagons.

  • Cab and trunk (90/110)

The classic station wagon design means a bit less trunk flexibility, but overall this V60 is a great choice for a family.

  • Comfort (103

    / 115)

The infotainment system that was the best of all when it hit the market has been around for years.

  • Transmission (63

    / 80)

A petrol engine is a better choice than a diesel, but we'd even prefer a plug-in hybrid.

  • Driving performance (83

    / 100)

Such a V60 does not have the most comfortable chassis, but therefore it is reliable in corners and, together with all-wheel drive, perfectly takes care of a convincing position on the road.

  • Security (98/115)

Safety, both active and passive, is at the level you'd expect from a Volvo.

  • Economy and environment (39

    / 80)

Consumption is slightly higher due to turbo petrol, but still within expected and acceptable limits.

Driving pleasure: 3/5

  • He is not an athlete, he is not very comfortable, but he is a good compromise, which also gives some pleasure on slippery surfaces.
