Window scraper test. Sometimes a credit card is better

Window scraper test. Sometimes a credit card is better Ice scrapers are an essential attribute of every driver in Poland in winter. Until the first frosts hit, it is worth checking which one is better and which one is more detrimental to the car. According to the expert, sometimes you should use ... a credit card.

Improperly cleaned ice can be irreparably damaged. Contrary to its appearance, its surface is delicate and, with inept scraping, it is not difficult to scratch it, and therefore break it. NordGlass experts advise on how to avoid the most common mistakes.

The most common way to remove frost and ice from glass is to scrape it off. It is worth paying attention to several elements. First of all, the scraping is done using a specially adapted scraper, and not, for example, a CD, which will immediately scratch the glass surface. The scraper must be strong and stable. Soft material may cause the glass to bend, causing uneven pressure on the glass and scratching the glass surface.

The cleanliness of the scraper is also important. Most often, we store it in the side glove compartment or trunk, where it is not always clean and sand can easily scratch the glass surface. Therefore, before cleaning the glass, we must first clean the scraper.

“Incompetent cleaning is a very common mistake,” admits Yaroslav Kuczynski, NordGlass specialist, “about 1 out of 10 people who contacted the service had their windshield damaged in this way. Unfortunately, scratched glass can only be replaced. We will not polish it in a professional service, because it is not very effective and dangerous.

If we are not afraid of new products, it is worth considering trying new technologies that will make window cleaning unnecessary at all. This convenience suggests a so-called hydrophobic coating, also known as an invisible wiper. This is a special substance that repels drops of water when it hits the glass. Thus, the glass remains dry and no ice layer forms on it. The cost of installing a hydrophobic coating is about PLN 50.
