Test: Peugeot 5008 2.0 Hdi (110 kW)

All the time we talk about the 5008 as a limousine van, the 807 will appear in the background. Cars of this design that have been (were) offered more to justify the development costs that Ulysses and Phaedra were far from "taking off" from Evasion.

Despite the 807, Peugeot desperately needed this type of limousine van that could compete in the market with Scénica, Verso, and all kinds of Picassos and others. They have been waiting for this blessing for a very long time. And here it is: 5008!

Its appearance is typical of Peugeot, but only insofar as the 5008 is recognizable as Peugeot. Otherwise, if we can conclude first after 3008 and then after 5008, Paris has simply decided (at least on some models) to avoid aggressive body parts, starting with the front bumper. This 5008 is much quieter, which we think is only good.

Outside, again in conjunction with the 807, and in this case also with the C4 (Grand) Picasso cousin, the side door should be noted. In this class, sliding doors (we are talking, of course, about the second pair of doors) do not seem to pass through the sieve of leading managers. And although, for example, 1007 have them.

At the same time, the 5008, like all the others with the classic solution of mounting the second pair of side doors, has lost some of its usability, especially in tight parking lots, but it will already be correct. Some unofficial theories say that such doors are too "delivery", which will not be tolerated by typical buyers of such large cars. OK.

The interior of the Five Thousand is (no longer surprising) as this work was owned by Three Thousand, at least when it comes to the dashboard. This one is very similar in both cars, although here it seems to have taken a step back.

Design, make no mistake: here, too, the middle part moves back, into the space between the front seats, only this time it is more "classically" lowered, which means it does not go into a high support for the elbows. In 5008, the elbows have two separate supports on each of the seats, with a large box in between or under them.

Also chilled and meant to be drunk, but once we got into the nasty wind zone, one more thing: the boxes in 5008 are big, but not much. That is, small items like keys, a mobile phone and a wallet have nowhere to put. If they do, they drive back and forth (boxes in the door) and/or accept the purpose of these places - let's say - to drink.

In short: despite the exceptional interior space, you cannot store everything satisfactorily and close to your hands. And the more you retreat, the worse it gets.

But back to the big picture. The control panel now contains the classic solutions (that is, the ones we are used to) from this brand, from buttons to the shape of the navigation screen and head-up display (HUD) for sensors. And from the point of view of ergonomics, everything is without serious flaws and comments.

The gauges are the same except for the linear speed scale. Otherwise, the sensors are very large and quite different from each other than you would take them from several license plates of a larger car. But this does not bother me at all, since they fit perfectly into the overall look.

Due to its size, the steering wheel is also quite large, its large diameter does not interfere either, and the very vertical arrangement of the ring is commendable.

The interior of the 5008 is very light: because of the large windows, because of the large space, because of the flowers, and - if you pay extra for it - also because of the really large (fixed) roof window with an electric shutter. The interior is dominated by gray that is "ripped" down the middle with a wide horizontal black stripe that starts (or ends, however you like) on the dashboard.

The leather on the seats is also light, but fortunately the floor is black, as all the dirt is immediately visible in the light. In combination with the leather on the seats, there is also their (three-stage) heating, where the uniformity and moderation of heating should be praised - especially in the first stage, which only slightly “hardens” the seat. In winter, this is a particularly commendable addition.

There are also disadvantages. The tilt of the backrest (front) is very difficult to adjust as the lever is pressed against the pillar and therefore difficult to access. The clutch pedal, which sounded like a child was walking on an old parquet floor, was also annoying.

When it rains, the windows inside (with auto-adjusting air conditioning that otherwise works efficiently) like to fog up, and opening the door is the biggest puzzle.

Being able to install an automatic door lock the first time the car is driven is a very useful idea (it's not the first time someone unprofessionally opens the door before a traffic light, etc.), but it's confusing here. If then during a downtime (for example) the driver leaves, his door is unlocked, but the others are not.

And even the button on the dashboard, designed to lock and fix, does not help in this case; an exited driver cannot open another door. He has to go back to the car, close the door, press the button that opens all the doors in this case, or reach for the key, turn off the engine, pull out the key and use it to unlock the door.

Okay, this reads captiously, but - believe me - it's very embarrassing.

In comparison, the occasional park assist ad (when there are no obstacles nearby) and the rear wiper scratching “here it is” (the rear beam is quiet and cleans well) is a mosquito fart.

However, the focus is on the equipment, which is huge in this car, which you see in the photographs (and which gives almost ten thousand surcharges), but still (or due to the amount of surcharge) we do not have enough electric seat adjustment. , more abundant interior lighting (mirrors) in the sun visors, towards the feet), ventilation slots on the rear bench (between the front seats), smart key, xenon headlights, blind spot assistance, more precise control of the unlocked door (all have only one signal lamp, so it is not clear what is open) and seat adjustment in the lumbar region. JBL and the video pack do not help with any of the above.

Okay, limousine van! 5008 is not only externally, but also in terms of internal flexibility. There are seven seats in total; the front two are classic, the rear two are submersible (and really meant for kids), and the second row has three individual seats that take a lot of adjustment to learn, but then it's a good thing.

Each of them, for example, two longitudinally longitudinal, also different angles of inclination of the back are possible, and the seats can be folded, raised, moved (to facilitate access to the third row). ... When it comes to space and flexibility, the 5008 is a good example of its kind.

However, we advise: if possible, choose a motor, for example, a test one. In terms of usability, we didn't find fault with it. It has smart preheating (which means you don't have to wait long) and even cold runs smoothly and quietly.

It has no interfering turbo bore, pulls at 1.000 rpm (although not very loaded), it spins at 1.500 rpm, it spins easily and quickly (even in third gear) up to 5.000 rpm (although the latter thousand gives a clear feeling that he does not really like doing it), he pulls evenly, he is not brutal, but very powerful, despite his large body (weight and aerodynamics), he pulls perfectly uphill all the way to high speeds and besides economical.

The engine, which is also designed to allow relatively high speeds, is focused on efficiency at low to medium speeds. This turns out to be a very good decision, because, say, at 50 kilometers per hour in fourth gear, when the tachometer shows a value of 1.400, it also pulls uphill easily and without resistance. And besides the fact that he can consume little fuel during moderate driving, he is especially prone to stalking when his thirst only intensifies.

Otherwise, according to the on-board computer, it consumes something like this. At 130 km / h in fourth gear (3.800 rpm) 7 liters at 8 km, in fifth (100) 3.100 and in sixth (6) 0 liters at 2.500 km.

At a speed of 160 kilometers per hour, the figures are as follows: in the fourth (4.700) 12, in the fifth (0) 3.800 and in the sixth (10) 4. Our flow measurements also showed this weight. and dimensions of the car with not very economical driving) very favorable traction for this car, despite the rather short calculated gearbox.

Given the good driving position (comfortable, but not at the expense of safety), the snuggle seats, the lively engine, the good gearbox, and the communicative steering wheel, it's not hard to find that (such) a 5008 is a pleasure to drive.

It is not athletic, but it can be very fast. The chassis is also very well tuned, with very little longitudinal (acceleration, braking) and lateral (bends) body turns. Despite some features that already border on sportiness, the 5008 is easy to handle, which (aside from the problems associated with long cycling) is easily and effortlessly driven by a physically weaker person.

If not elsewhere, the sportiness of the Five Thousand Eight ends with an ESP system that can only be disabled at speeds up to 50 kilometers per hour. From this point on, it behaves in a very limited manner: it (too) quickly interferes with the operation of the engine (and the brakes), and even more unpleasant for the dynamics of an impatient driver is that in this case it interferes with the work of the mechanics. for a long time.

It also becomes uncomfortable when overtaking on slippery trails where the ESP engine is completely choked up, and as a result, overtaking can also become a little awkward. This is partly due to tires that are clearly not suitable for this car; they drain very poorly (repel water) and adhere very poorly to any type of snow.

It was not possible to fully assess the position on the road, but the car gives a feeling of reliability and considerable range before ESP is activated.

Overall, fortunately, in most real-life situations (road conditions, driver knowledge, driving style ...) it works well. Basically, the 5008 with its chassis, steering wheel, responsiveness and performance of the engine and transmission gives a very pleasant driving experience and a very good automotive connection feeling.

Therefore: if you are looking for something similar for transporting seven people, Five Eight is quite the right choice.

Face to face. ...

Dusan Lukic: For a while they slept in a Peugeot. SUVs, minivans. . As if they dedicated all their knowledge to Sesa. Then came the (not-quite-convincing) 3008 and now the (much more convincing) 5008. In terms of ride quality, it's only been pursued by a few competitors, the bike is the sweet spot, and if you subtract the desire for a more storage box, it would actually be difficult. want something more. And the price is missing something. Good family choice.

Overall rating (336/420)

  • Peugeot's entry into the van limousine class has been a success: the 5008 is a model in its class and a dangerous competitor (especially in France).

  • Exterior (11/15)

It's not the prettiest sedan-van, but it does open up a new design direction in typical Peugeot style.

  • Interior (106/140)

Spacious and comfortable as well as flexible. However, there is not enough space to store small items and (more efficient) drinks. Nice air conditioner.

  • Engine, transmission (52

    / 40)

An excellent engine in all respects, a very good gearbox and outgoing mechanics.

  • Driving performance (56

    / 95)

Very good on all counts, nowhere significantly deviates. The position on the road could not be fully determined due to the restrictive ESP system.

  • Performance (27/35)

A very fast and dynamic car, mainly due to its good maneuverability.

  • Security (47/45)

Significant blind spot, inconvenient automatic wiper on / off switch, lack of modern active safety accessories.

  • Economy

Economical, but quite expensive in the basic version with this engine.
