This may seem logical to some, but unfortunately this is not always the case. Rare cars remain as agile, stable and cute with the added trailer rack. It is clear that they are more useful, of course, but not everyone is ready to sacrifice all of the above in order to get several liters of luggage compartment.

Although, of course, there is no question of a few liters. The Megane station wagon, or Grandtour as Renault calls it, basically offers 580 liters of luggage space, nearly 150 liters more than the five-door version. Of course, the boot gets even bigger when we fold down the rear seat backs and create 1.504 liters of space. A special feature of the Grandtour is the folding backrest of the passenger (front) seat. The latter helps to push the object as deep as possible into the dashboard in the Megana, and in centimeters, this means that objects up to 2,77 meters long can be transported in the car.

As already mentioned, the attractiveness of the exterior remains almost at the level of the basic five-door Megane. Maybe there will even be someone who will say that he likes the caravan better, and there is nothing to dispute. And not because the Renault Grandtour was meticulously planned and not just added a backpack to the five-door sedan.

Obviously, GT hardware also leaves its mark. As with the station wagon, we once again praise the color, which also stands out positively on the Grandtour.

Renault is also making sure that affordable technology moves from luxury sedans to conventional vehicles. As such, the test car was equipped with a hands-free parking system, including a reversing camera, active cruise control, distance warning and automatic emergency braking. In addition, a Bose audio system, heated front seats and an (otherwise emergency) head-up screen were available. Of course, we are listing all of the above, because the final price of 27.000 euros would otherwise confuse many.

But if you also point to a 1,6-liter turbo gasoline engine with 205 "horsepower", then it is clear that this Megan is no joke. Like his younger brother, he is not afraid to drive fast. The automatic transmission works well, and the large steering wheel paddles that don't rotate with the steering wheel are commendable. However, it should be noted that the engine is only 1,6-liter, so when driving fast, it causes a lot of thirst. Perhaps the fact that the car was brand new and, therefore, the engine has not yet been fully broken in, is good for him. Therefore, interestingly, the consumption in the standard configuration was exactly the same as that of the station wagon.

evaluation

  • Viewed below, the Megane Grandtour, together with GT hardware and a powerful turbocharged petrol engine, offers the perfect combination. It can come in handy for a family when the father himself wants to go for a drive as soon as possible, but the dynamics does not dry out.
